B1G

I figured something out -- if you record a B1G game to a DVR, you can watch it in fast-forward, and it almost looks like a real football game.

I think my 45 year old ass can take anyone in the B1G in the 40... except Usain Robinson.

I assume you were referring to the OSU-WIS game. I watched that goal line stand the Buckeyes put up. That was impressive old school football at its finest. Not sure why I picked Wisky to get over in this game, but if the team I picked loses, I don't mind so much when it's in a slugfest like that. Monte Ball is going to be rolling over some NFL linebackers pretty soon, that's for sure.

Yeah... wish us Paccers could play defense like the SEC -- where two feeble offenses are knotted at 35-35.

Or maybe like the B12 defenses...

get it? I used the terms "B12" and "defenses" in the same sentence... get it? Huh? Huh? I'm funny like that.

Props to the fucking Buckeyes for beating the fucking Badgers. Great game by both teams. And, no, it's not the video game football that Dins is used to watching but make no mistake about it, it's real football. Can't blame Dins for being excited about his Ducks though, as the past few years are the first time in Dins' 45 years of existence that the Ducks have been relevant in a college football discussion. A guy has to enjoy it whenever it happens.

Yeah, because it's not like Oregon won more games in the 90's than any other PAC team, or won a conference championship or anything.

Yes, and even then they didn't play defense..... as did no one else in the PAC.

Huh?

The PAC is [i[the best[/i] defensive conference.

Out Here, we don't play faggot offense. If a PAC team doesn't bring the D, they get 100 dropped on them.

That's my story, I'm sticking to it.

That's a good story so, by all means, stick with it.

One of the worst teams/offenses in the PAC... made College Football look like a video game against the best team in the B1G and their defense.

Oh, look, another "that conference doesn't play like my conference so I don't like it" thread.

What's great about cfb are the myriad schemes and styles. Makes the sport truly unique. The NFL is great in its own right, but watching 32 pro style offenses go at each other every Sunday can get a little boring.

Simple solution: if you need a 41-27 halftime score to keep you entertained, then change the channel.

OSU's defense is terrible. Look at how many points IU put on them. That team is all Braxton Miller.

There is a lot of speed and gifted players all over the country...as Mgo says there are a lot of difference schemes sprinkled all over the landscape. It comes down to the quality coaches that figure out what works best for the type of athletes they recruit and best utilize those guys. Oregon doesn't have a lot of slow beefy guys...why would you play a slow-moving clock/ball-control style? You use what you've got and what you recruit and you get a coach in Kelly that knows how to utilize guys that are frightening when they have the ball in their hands in space in 1-on-1 situations.

What was great about that game last night was watching the contrast in styles...the old school beefy ball-control side in Stanford trying to slow down the hyperactive Oregon attack. You either see Oregon run circles around those slower teams...which is a relative term because most teams are just slower than them...or you see a well-coached team control the ball and the clock on offense and play solid gap-responsible defense and avoid the game from going at the pace Oregon commands. Yardage-wise it ended being a very even game...Stanford basically held the ball for close to 2/3 of the time and survived losing the turnover battle. You just don't see Oregon held below 20 points often...not since the title game against Auburn.

Nice to see a couple of good Midwestern teams added to the mix.

Ya'think courting Rutgers and Maryland might have something to do with their media markets (#1 and #9)?

Sure, but I think this is a way of pressuring Notre Dame to choose between remaining independent or joining a conference.

If ND's hand wasn't forced when they were going 7-5 every year, then it's not gonna be when they're on the verge of playing for the MNC.

They have no other reason to court these two for any other reason than television. Of course Delaney willl spin it stating the typical "strong academic institution" BS...well, then absorb the entire Ivy League if that's the real goal. Seems appropriate they had that feature on Michigan and the business of college football on 60 Minutes last night.

I'll save the board from the interminable TiC post and just tell you it's about cable markets.

If the Big 10 actually go to 32 teams then they should drop the pretense of competitive balance and just stick the teams with a pulse in one division and everyone else in the other. Maybe Indiana will jam the upset once every 20 years but at least the real teams will get to settle the issue on the field, for the most part.
