Kind of a shitty situation. I feel bad for Embree. Two years is not enough time to turn a program around, especially one that was in as bad of shape as CU was post-Hawkins.
Never doubted Embree's dedication to and passion for the CU program, but a change needed to be made. I would've much rather seen Bohn get fired, but I'm sure a new AD would've fired Embree as their first order of business anyway. Bohn probably knew that his ass would be next on the chopping block if he retained Embree and they continued to suck as expected next year.
Hopefully they do the right thing and hire Calhoun this time. Not really sold on Tedford. I'd take him as an OC in a heartbeat, but not as HC. If you're trying to make a mark in the Pac 12, the last thing you need to do is start hiring Cal's castoffs...

i was a little surprised by this move. CU was dreadful...but i thought Embree was good another year. CU admins seem to prefer to let coaches hang themselves than make a "decision".

His loyalty to Bieniemy might've done him in. Speculation is that he might've been able to hang on for another year if he made wholesale changes to his staff, but he refused to fire his friend. I've got nothing but respect for Embree. The dude is pure class, even if he turned out to be a less than stellar HC.
I really don't get all the talk about Tedford. It's not like he wasn't given a chance in Berkeley. We've already seen what he can do as an HC in the Pac 12 for the past 11 years, and while that's certainly better than what Hawkins or Embree accomplished, I don't see him ever being more than a perennial 7-5/8-4 coach who maybe puts a 10-win season together every 5 years or so.
Tressel is a long shot, but is really the only elite BTPCFB coach on the market right now. I think he still has that "show cause" albatross around his neck, but I'm sure they could make it work if they really wanted to.
Otherwise, I'd rather see them go with an up-and-coming coordinator or an HC at a smaller program. Despite the failed Hawkins experiment, I agree with KC that Calhoun is a good coach and good character guy who has the potential to be extremely successful at a BCS school.
Then again, maybe Texas gets destroyed by KSU this weekend and Mack Brown will be looking for work. Brown as HC and Tedford as OC? That's a plan I could get behind...

Embree looked shell-shocked, kinda rambling and tears in his eyes. No idea who thought it was a good idea to run him up in front of the TV cameras today.

In the small, cultish world of CU football fandom, Coach Mac is revered as a godlike Bear Bryant-like figure (and rightfully so, I might add), but I do not want this man coaching my alma mater in the year 2012...

I remember his daughter got knocked up by his QB, then the QB died of cancer.

McCartney is loony.
You're right. McCartney beat ND with the NC on the line.
