Whingeing? WTF is whingeing?
Is that the same as buggering?

It seems like Dad has completely buggered his family and is finally coming to the realization that all the whingeing, and the cess-pit that Mum has turned into, is pretty much a result of said buggering. Somebody really needs to shove a spanner up his ronson.

Whinging is whining.

Buggering is buttfucking a man (sup TVO). AKA "rogering." Engaging in buggery makes one a "sod."

Pops sounds like a pompous dickbag to me and a first rate whinger in his own right. I guess that's where his kids picked it up. I'm sure they're all broken up by disappointing an asshole.

we have nothing to say which reflects any credit on you or us.
This is simply an example of the abject failure on Dad's part to count his blessings. At the very least, to reflect credit on the kids and himself, he could say, "At least they're not AP."

each of you consciously, and with eyes wide open, crashes from one cock-up to the next
WOO HOO!!! Where's our invite?

The poet Robert Burns wrote:When first my brave Johnie lad came to this town,
He had a blue bonnet that wanted the crown;
But now he has gotten a hat and a feather,
Hey, brave Johnie lad, cock up your beaver!

Cock up your beaver, and cock it fu' sprush,
We'll over the border, and gie them a brush;
There's somebody there we'll teach better behaviour,
Hey, brave Johnie lad, cock up your beaver!

So I guess the American version would be a cock up U.S., which AP would probably enjoy immensely.

Dickbag is putting it mildly. So his kids have been through divorces and live in two income households. So they confide their problems with mother. Big Hairy Fucking Deal.

He is clearly a judgmental prick and has no business popping off after being an absentee father. It's a wonder any of his children speak to him at all.

We are constantly regaled with chapter and verse of the happy, successful lives of the families of our friends and relatives and being asked of news of our own children and grandchildren. I wonder if you realise how we feel — we have nothing to say which reflects any credit on you or us.
Yes, he's been cock-blocked in his efforts to bask in the reflected glory of his children. I'm weeping as I type this.

His kids probably post on T1B, so no wonder he's so disappointed in them and their failed lives.

I can read. I don't need any additional help. Maybe you do. Anytime you feel inclined to bitch about your kids, take a long look in the mirror first, count your blessings and shut the fuck up.

This guy is a complete asshole. Straight up. He had jackfuckingshit to do with raising his kids. Between packing them off to boarding school and his naval career, he might as well not have even been there at all. In reality, his "bitter disappointment" is actually bitter jealousy now that he's retired and finds himself a stranger in his own home. His kids confide in their mother and they don't pay any attention at all to his advice. Why should they? He wasn't there when they were growing up. He pushed that responsibility off on his wife and the headmasters at school. His childrens' behavior is, in large part, a consequence of his life choices. He needs to hitch up his big boy pants and own those decisions.

He ought to be thankful that his own marriage survived his career. The vast majority of military marriages don't and he has to know that. What he should be doing is building the relationships with his children that he never did before and enjoying the company of his grandchildren. Life is way too fucking short for "bitter disappointment" in your children.
He points out that he wouldn't really give two shits
Yeah, that came through loud and clear. Great attitude to take towards your children. How can you miss with that?

Yeah, I do. I've seen, known and am related to dozens just like him. I served and come from an old military family. That asshat has a lot of nerve complaining that the children he did next to nothing to raise haven't met his own lofty standards of success.

His attitude is a surefire recipe for dying bitter, alone and unloved by anyone. I've seen that too.

If one of his kids had turned out worthless, you could put it on the kid, but, when you go oh for, you have to wonder about the parents.

I dunno' what my expectations were, I just wanted to give my daughter the best chance I could and simply be there for her, whatever came along.

If I did have some expectations, she blew past them about age 9 and never looked back.

Rather than parents having expectations of their children, kids should have expectations of their parents.

It could be worse..... his kids might be dipshits with no direction or drive in life, despite the stability and privileged childhood they were given, but how would pops feel if a couple were arch-criminals, in and out of the prison and another was a heroin addict who stole his garden hose to trade for drugs everytime he visited?

Maybe that smarmy fuck needs to count his blessings.
