There is scuttlebutt about GaTech locking up the 15th slot of the soon to be super conference.

Should it come to fruition, who would be #16? Sources close to me indicate some buzz around UVA.

If true, at least they're adding teams that Iowa might have a chance to beat. I was afraid they'd go after Central Michigan.
It's going to take awhile for me to wrap my head around this whole super conference stuff, as I'm just getting accustomed to Penn State and Nebraska being members. Now Maryland and Rutgers....and possibly Georgia Tech? I know I'm old but I liked it better when the Big 10 actually meant TEN. And, yes, I know it's about the money, but what do these three schools bring to the conference besides TV/recruiting markets and money? I can't see any of these three schools adding to the conference SOS in football, unlike when Penn State and Nebraska joined the league.

what I have read/heard (all interweb rumor and such) is that they have cooled on UVA...but that possibly UNC is in play...again FWIW

As would Maryland.....and the three would more than compensate for the academic drop the conference took when adding Nebraska.

Rack. Maryland, at best, is a lateral move academically.

And that's up from what it was a few years ago. Then again - it's supposedly a hard-assed school. I know they party like motherfuckers!
Pfft. Amateurs.

As a party school, Wisconsin is pretty much in a class all by themselves.

You don't think Georgia Tech and Virginia are top level universities as far as academics?
You ain't too bright, are you?
UVA is an excellent school and GT is pretty damn good too, but they won't be joining the Sun Belt, moron. There are already schools on par, or better, than UVA in the Big 11.

I don't know...maybe Goobs can enlighten us as to the why....but, after being in Madison for football games (usually an Iowa win), I believe the rep to be well deserved. Even back when I was in college, Wisconsin was always named #1 in party schools by
Playboy and got to the point one year when they excluded them from the list because they were "in a class all their own" when it came to partying. Maybe it's the close proximity to Milwaukee and cheap beer, or simply part of their culture. Whatever it is, I always thought I'd like to live there....at least on weekends.

It's the drinking culture here. I read some years ago that Wisconsin lead the country in per capita consumption of both beer and brandy. Also quite common here to see news articles about people picking up their 7th, 8th or 12th DUI, so we've got that going for us.

Quite simply, Wisky has always been dead serious about its alcohol consumption. If you were surrounded by so many fat and fuglies, you would too.

I can't figure out the ACC...are they folding or are they just eating up what's left of the Big East?
