Weird things are afoot in Lubbock.

Tommy Tuberville has left Texas Tech to become the new head coach at Cincinatti. Kind of a weird lateral move?

Lateral? I'd call it a step down from Texas Tech.

It's a solid program that has been a jumping off point for coaches...Kelly to Notre Dame / Jones to Tennessee. What is Texas Tech since Mike Leach was run? Plus, there's less competition in the Big Eas(y).

Going from the Big 12 to the Big East is a step down, imo.

weirder part to me is Tommy T going that far north of the Mason-Dixon line. =

he was never going to beat or out recruit OU, UT, ATM, OSU, now Baylor or TCU in the region.

What may look like a lateral move is really an opportunity to get the fuck out of there.
Coaches work 20 hours a day and spend the other four hours eating, pooping, sleeping and working some more. Not much time to enjoy the scenery. Besides, Ohio is cold half the year and Tubberville is a southern boy. Then there's his lack of connections to the upper midwest. Definitely something afoot here.

Ol' Wingnut will do anything to water down a schedule.

Apparently the headphone slap he gave during a game did not go over well with Craig James & Co.

So...Petrino to Lubbock?

Papa Willie wrote:That IS weird as shit. I'm sure it was money. Seems like I was passing over the Cincy game last week (maybe it was against Pitt - I'm not looking it up), but it was a pretty big game - and 25 people were in the stands for an important game. And the Big East wonders why it has football problems.
Cincy has a 35,000 seat stadium that they don't come close to filling on Saturday afternoons and some shitty facilities that they say will be improved. Attendance for senior day was a little over 20,000. This is a big step down from Taco Tech and the Big 12. The sideline incident or something else had to give him a reason to bolt to Cincy because this cannot be considered a job promotion.

You guys just don't get it. Taco Tech is the holy grail of coaching stepping stones. Cincy will win 18 national titles in the next twenty years.

If Ohio State isn't playing, then the Cincy students and alums might be bothered to show up. But they probably won't really care who wins.

Looking down the road of realignment there is a good chance that Cincinnati will be moving to a better conference

Not with a 35,000 seat stadium that they can't come close to filling. MGO nailed it.....no one in Ohio gives a shit about Cincy football, which probably makes them a good fit for the Big East.

They could play in Paul brown Stadium, but then they'd have the same problem that we're in.
