Playoffs - Early Predictions

OK, so your probable #1 seeds in each conference had very bad losses over the weekend. Atlanta was embarrassed by a doormat, and Houston was exposed by a perennial contender. If you want to make an excuse for Atlanta, they were due for a down game and Cam can beat anybody, especially with a few breaks. Plus, Atlanta didn't need the game. It wasn't a must win for Houston either, as they are looking fairly solid as a #1 or 2 in the AFC. That said, I would imagine that the importance of holding off New England for home field advantage just became a lot more apparent after last night's visit to Foxboro.

SO?

AFC

New England looks like the powerhouse, and Denver like the team that you don't want to play. These teams are likely to meet in the Divisional Round, and I favor the home team. That will likely be New England, unless they stumble against the Niners this weekend. From what I've seen, there's not a lot of stumbling from Belichick-coached teams at home in December. So - was last night an aberration and can Houston beat NE at home? Here's my predictions:

Wild Card Round:

(3) Denver beats (6) Cincinnati
(4) Baltimore beats (5) Indy

Divisional Round:

(2) New England beats (3) Denver
(1) Houston beats (4) Baltimore

AFC Championship

(2) New England beats (1) Houston

NFC

Atlanta has the most talent. NYG has the most success. GB has the most tradition, and plenty of experience. SF has a killer D, but no playoff-worthy quarterbacks. I'm afraid that Atlanta peaked too early, and that the graybeards will pull it out when it matters. Predictions:

Wild Card Round:

(3) San Francisco beats (6) Chicago
(5) Seattle beats (4) NY Giants

Divisional Round:

(1) Atlanta beats (5) Seattle
(2) Green Bay beats (3) san Francisco

NFC Championship:

(2) Green Bay beats (1) Atlanta

Super Bowl: Green Bay vs. New England

New England 38, Green Bay 28

You mean all of those people who would happily give up their house, their car and their first born child to have some sweaty football player jump into their lap after scoring a touchdown?

With Denver having to play the Chiefs and Cleveland at home for their final two, it looks like they are going to get the bye and the Pats at home in the divisional round. That is, of course, if Houston wins one of their last two games.

New England having to play in Dungver could mean Houston (if they win their divisional game against Baltimore, Indy, or Cincy) may not face the Pats at all in the playoffs.

Indeed. Thank you Niners.
