Why the hate for death pool participants? Sure, it's a bit morbid, but let's face it - everyone dies, participating in the pool doesn't hasten anyone's demise, no one (even the "winner") benefits from playing, nor does anyone suffer any consequences as a result, so it's all just good, clean fun. What's not to love?

Don't know about all that, although he was only a few days off on Annette Funicello.

And while no one is pulling a BSmack so far, Chip has the early lead, with two of his selections (Roger Ebert and Annette Funicello) already having bitten the dust.

Using the old scoring method, i.e., 100 - age = base score + 10 point bonus for correct cause of death, here are the standings so far, IIRC:

JSC810: 80 points (Roger Ebert 30 + 10, Annette Funicello 30 + 10)
Smackaholic: 42 points (Hugo Chavez 42, no bonus since cause of death was a heart attack)
Smackie Chan: 23 points (Margaret Thatcher 13 + 10).

I gave Maggie to Smackie rather than missjo since Smackie posted first.

That's bullshit on not giving me the bonus for Hugo. Dude died because he had cancer. It may have technically been a heart attack, but, that's the way cancer rolls. It never gets the score, just the assist. I doubt anyone has ever actually died from cancer. They always die because something else fails because it was weakened by cancer. The same as anyone dying of old age.

No one has ever died from getting shot. It's the loss of blood that follows that is generally the killer.

My point is that of course cancer is responsible for the deaths, but the direct cause is something else such as a heart attack, apparently in Hugo's case.
