I'm hearing at least 6 fans got hurt, hit by flying debris. Not sure how serious but it looked bad, real bad. I know I saw a tire fly over the top of the catch fence while the engine of the #32 went plum thru it. It sheared off the entire front end of the car.
Yikes. That dude pretty much had it won and somebody drove right up his ass. I think I'd be a little pissed. I guess NASCAR needs to build a better fence.

Those necks could have their dome half sawed off and they would brag about it at work the next day. They were probably kicking the shit out of each other trying to pickup some small fragment of that wreck to take home and hang on the wall and shrine it off.
I would be pretty pissed if your on the crew for the 32 car after he tore it up like that.
Typical Daytona.

That "dude" tried to block and that "somebody" was Keselowski, who would wreck his own mother if she tried to block him.

Watched the start of today's race at a local watering hole when I stopped in for a couple cold beers. Read about the crash later. The way they race it is not surprising. I was a big NASCAR fan back when they drove "real" cars. Was at the first Watkins Glen race in 1957, and always saw them when they raced at the NY State Fair grounds dirt track back in the days of Tim Flock and the Chrysler 300. Not really into it is these days.

The way they race is balls to the wall, even in the supposedly lower tier events like today. And it was a tremendous race, over shadowed of course by fans becoming part of the fray. But the pressure and desire to win is so great, sometimes they make risky moves they regret later. The #7 driver probably regrets trying to block a block head like Keselowski. He would've probably won anyway, no need to block at that point.

Whoever was driving #7 ought to have his nuts removed force fed to him for breakfast.
I caught a foul ball once at a Giants game. Seeing a tire come over the fence would be a little more intimidating.

Nothing stock about those cars. If they really want to call it stock car racing then the mechanics should all work for NASCAR and drivers selected their car by random draw. Then they put the 9750 stickers on them and go race.
That would be watchable IMO.

it's quite watchable now, especially at the super speedways where drafting is key. They've changed the cars again, to make it more competitive. And in watching that race today, the changes worked. The restrictor plates don't seem to have near as much effect as they used to, where they pretty much all lined up and played follow the leader lap after lap. There were like 19 different leaders today.

can't blame the 7 car, he got spun by the one behind him, 22, I think.

It sure was.
I sat there thinking, these boys are really going at it, more than once, all thru the race.
This was a 300 mile race. i can only imagine what the 500 is going to be like tomorrow but my money is on Harvick... and Danica heading to the garage around lap 50.

Rack the hell outta old school neckcar from the time before they took the neck part out.
Wonder how little Danica would have fared with those good ole' boys.

The guy with the funny glasses is still mad about that race.

Redneck, thy name is NASCAR. But as interesting as that lil' fender bender was yesterday, here's a defining moment in the ultimate futility of this fake, planet-killing sport. And it was Formula One--two years ago in Vegas. Look closely and you can see Ms. Patrick just about get her head removed.
Why? A thousand left turns and finishing in the pack? Avoiding the LA freeway body banging lunatics and making it all the way to the end? What a joke.

Harsh!

She didn't do anything stupid. I was afraid she would!

I didn't expect her to last 50 laps, much less 200. Not only that but she was in 3rd heading into the last lap with a real chance to win. But she was afraid to pull out and go for it, feeling nobody would go with her and she'd get freight trained, which is what wound up happening anyway.
Still, an 8th place finish is pretty damn good. She ran a smart race, avoided trouble and didn't make any stupid mistakes. Props to her and her team.
