Don't know much about this whale thing, but the wife likes to watch the whale wars show on Animal Planet. The way the story is spun on animal planet is that killing whales is allowed for research purposes only, and that the Japs claim that killing hundreds is necessary research.

That doesn't make much sense to me, but whatever. The biggest take away I have from that show is that those dudes fail in about 9 of 10 things they try. Mostly they put themselves in danger rather than the Japs.

I'd have a lot more respect for these Sea Shepherd clowns if they would just stop fucking around and act like proper pirates. Whalers are among the lowest forms of scum on the planet. Board their ships, destroy them and simply murder their crews. Sailors might think twice about serving on a whale "research" vessel.

I was going to the piracy on the high seas card, but this covers it pretty well. Of course, it they did go the piracy route, the ships being targeted could fight back. Some domes being blown off would bring the reality ratings up big time.

Not sure why these guys don't just take the Japs to court over the whale harvest. maybe they have and lost, but it sure seems they could put a limit on the number of whales each country could kill in the name of research each year. Limit the number to say 10 per year and it is unlikely the Japs send a fillet of boats down there to conduct their research.

Did a bodysurf on the shores of Big Beach Maui yesterday while the whales were doing their thing in the deep water channel towards Kahoolawe. It's an inspiration of nature to watch a whale breach the surface. Takes your breath away.
