Why some thing like this fails in the south should be no surprise. I have always wondered about the construction on those stick houses and buildings, and the long held tradition of living in the metal boxs on wheels. Probably paid off any inspectors, then some fat ass walks by the sign and farts and it falls over.

Cue the lawsuits for everyone remotely involved in that incident.

Then you have incidents like this one. I have attended 2 events in the last 4 months that this restaurant catered. Probably going to take a pass on any more, odds are not real good.

Show me one square block anywhere on planet earth that isn't infested with idiots. Modern society has short-circuited natural selection and has allowed even encouraged fucktards to thrive and multiply.

In a sane and just society, the mensa member who thought it was a good idea to secure that sign with liquid nail would be stuffed in a potato sack and tossed off a ten story building.

morons come from every political and ethnic background.....I've spent enough time in the south that I stand by my assertion.....as mvscal pointed out, there aren't many places where idiots abound, it just seems like the south has a disproportionate percentage.....sorry you had to find out this way

As someone who has lived and visited more of the country than the average person, I have to agree with Felix on this...
Felix wrote: morons come from every political and ethnic background
I disagree with him that a larger percentage come from the south. Those in the south just embrace their inner moron. At the same time the rest of those in the south recognize that there are morons among them and leave it at that. Meanwhile the rest of the country tries to hide their morons or claim they don't exist.

Hell, but for the walkout basement Smacky's deck construction pic would be right at home in the south, or Appalachia, or Peoria, or Truckee, or the Oregon woods.

Smacky, this was not meant to degrade your deck construction, nor your choice of yard art, but rather to say you are a man of the people.

Then why don't you say there are idiots everywhere? Point being, catastrophes happen everywhere due to human error.

Constructing Milwaukee's ball park was a huge FAIL on the guy who was in charge of authorizing lifts in 50mph winds. Cost two construction workers their lives.

How 'bout these idiots, feelsdix. This job was done in Colorado:

No it doesn't. Idiots who let people use toxic/reactive chemicals to paint an inner wall inside a pipe without an egress route or safety tag lines attached to them is what I call special.

Same with the Birmingham people. You and Scrote are foolish to think this couldn't happen to your family in your hometown.

that was over 30 years ago, I'm surprised you recall that.

But that wasn't a case of poor engineering or construction methods. It was case of a skywalk being used as a dance floor. It was a case of piss poor hotel management that killed and/or maimed over 100 people.

Texas, particularly East Texas, was cotton country and most certainly part of the Deep South both culturally and economically as well as being an original member of the Confederacy.

This. At the time, the family inheritance passed to the first born, so a pretty nice chunk of Texas was populated by second- and third born South Carolinians, Georgians, Alabamians, and Mississippians seeking their legacy. After initially settling in East Texas, the boll weevil continued to drive these folks west, and they developed dry land farming techniques to continue growing their crop. You can still find cotton farming as far west as Lubbock even today.

That is partly true, but you are leaving a few things out of that list.

More like God, Family, Neighbors, Football, Texas, Guns, Hunting, Military and America.

Don't think though that this means Texans aren't proud Americans. It's just that we look locally before we look globally. But please by all means keep spreading that mantra. We are seeing 1500 people a day move to Texas and about 300 of them are from Cali.

first day of basic training at Lackland AFB outside San Antonio, circa 1980:

Drill Sergeant: "Where you from, boy?"

Newb: "El Paso, Sir!"

Drill Sergeant: "There ain't nothing but steers and queers from Texas and I don't see no horns on you, boy"!

Newb, to self: "I shoulda' joined the Peace Corps".

Yeah, I mean who needs all those damn taxpayers anyhoo? I am sure there are a few dozen folks in monterrey that can carry the load all by themselves. Or maybe they can just do it on obamabucks. Surely bernanke can print an extra few bazillion.

And as Smacky said they are taking that tax revenue with them.

The passing of Prop 30 is only increasing that. Tax revenues are already well below Jerry's predictions and what he sold the people on. So what do you do when the the tax increase you approved doesn't close the gap and it expires in 4/7 years? make it permanent and increase it again?
