Look closely!

Why would the railroad letter their cars for mirror image reading? There should never be a situation where those cars are directly behind your car and you are reading the name in your rear view mirror. So the slide was ass backwards when someone made a print from it or turned it into a digital image.

Now, granted the BN is no longer a stand alone name since it merged with the Santa Fe, but plenty of those cars were never reprinted and many are still running on rails around the country. This may date the photo even 8-10 years but the bigger question still remains, who is shooting slides in 2004?

Another clue is the ties and rails themselves. The right most track still has wooden ties, but the track next to it very well may have concrete ties do to the ballast covering much/all of the tie. Also the lack of joiners on the inside rails would indicate welded rail instead of jointed track. Both of those are more recent innovations that became widely used in the late 90s.

the reverse lettering does suggest it was from a film negative, but, not necessarily a slide. If I remember my ancient photo media trivia, wasn't slide film different from regular photo film.
