Oakland is not without its charm. Of course it's also not without its rapes, murders and drugs.
There's parts of Oakland I would be cool with living. Safe to say walking distance to an A's game is not one of those places.

The other side of the bridge would be OK.

another "timeless" classic (72 yr old house) at $525,000 or $326/sf? WTF is there a gold mine underneath the house
here's what $525,000 will buy you around here.....
granted, those neighborhoods don't have the same quaint characteristics as I'm sure the Oakland neighborhood has (meth production and gun play are non existent) but jezus palamino, is the thrill of potentially being shot every time you drive through the neighborhood really worth $326/sf?

Damn, even Casa De Smack might be worth 60 or 70K in Oakland.

If by gold mine, you mean a handful of dead gangbangers with gold teef, then, yeah, I would say there is a good chance of it.

It does add to the excitement.

For your house? I'd say that's a pretty good bounty.

Oakland is one of the scariest cities I've ever been through......ended up there entirely by accident trying to find my way to San Leandro and was afraid to stop and ask anybody how to get out....
it looked like there were gangbangers on every street corner.....I sure the term "California Stop" (where you roll through a stop sign without ever coming to a complete stop) originated in Oakland....I'm sure I didn't even slow down at some of those controlled intersections....

I have a son who lives there. He loves it, saying he's known for a decade that it's the most "exciting" city in the country as well as one of the most diverse. While diversity in and of itself is not necessarily a positive attribute and likely does, in fact, account for high crime rates and other unsavory statistics, some folks welcome it with arms more open than others. He's not a gangbanger nor does he pack heat, and has never mentioned living in fear there, although I'm sure he knows the neighborhoods to stay away from.
Different strokes...

At that price it better come with a torture chamber and a few sex slaves.

Well, I suppose being carjacked could be considered exciting
~pfffft~Maybe just barely...and only if you shoved the barrel of your .357 up my quivering asshole while I listen to Judy Garland records on my 78 speed gramophone and you pull the trigger at the precise moment when I ejaculate.

I am a bit sick of Alec's thread. It's not like we ALL haven't seen tens of thousands of images of naked women posing in all sorts of manners doing all kinds of acts.
OK, Alec...naked women. Whip-D-Do...we get it.
I'm reminded of the scene from Cool hand Luke where Luke tells Dragline- "Stop beating it into the ground, man. Y'aint doing anyone any good."
