Some people would think that Born in the USA would be an appropriate anthem, but not for the reasons a Vanity Fair reader would think.

Wrong Board. Are you new here?!
I'm thinking that an editor may have stepped in to correct another one of Screwey's errors, as the headline now reads: "The 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair Poll: Americans Love the Boss." But he DID miss the url:

Now that hurts. And here I keep holding you up to my sons as "One of America's Great Success Stories."
Work hard, get your education, and you too may one day be able to idle away time part-owner of one of America's great smack boards...

Marvin Gaye's performance of the national anthem at the 1983 NBA All Star game is the best version I've ever heard....he took the song, gave it a much needed makeover and turned it into something with meaning and unforgettable.....
Born in the USA? are you fucking me?
Bruce can't attend every event where the national anthem is played and anyone else trying to sing it would look like a fucking tool....
anybody that thinks that should have their head examined....what the fuck is wrong with people in this country?

Yes, that view sure beats the view I saw from the KC airport. Luckily, I have it every day.

Anyone who thinks Born in the USA should be the National Anthem should have his head examined -- or at least be forced to listen ti the lyrics. The song is about America's failure to live up to its promise. Important to remember, sure, but not exactly appropriate as a celebration of the U.S.
The Star-Spangled Banner is too difficult to sing, and its language is too arcane. I'm with Sam on this one: the National Anthem should be America the Beautiful. I could also gi for America, except that its music is taken directly from God Save the Queen.
If we must have a more contemporary song as the National Anthem, I would nominate the following:
Charlie Daniels Band, In America (may have too many dated references)
Neil Diamond, America (the righties may object to this one, as it's about immigration)
Joe Vitale, Lady on the Rock (my personal choice).
