Situation:

Texas just scored and is lining up the PAT attempt against ATM. Score prior to the PAT is Texas 9 ATM 7.

A) An ATM player on the line at the snap blocks the kick and the ball ends up at the 1 yard line. ATM picks up the ball and begins to return it towards the opposite end of the field. The Texas kicker while attempting to tackle the ball carrier knocks the ball free (fumble). A second Texas player then picks the ball up and runs it into the ATM endzone (end where the PAT was first attempted). Score?

B) An ATM player on the line at the snap blocks the kick and the ball ends up 3 yards deep in the endzone. An ATM player picks up the ball and returns it to the opposite endzone. Score?

Killian is correct on both.

In the first situation the ball is live since it was first touched in the field of play by ATM. The scrimmage play ended with Texas in possession of the ball in ATM's endzone.

In the second situation the ball is dead as soon as it hit in the endzone. If ATM had touched it prior to it hitting the ground in the endzone then it would have been live. However, a kick untouched by the defending team, is dead by rule when it hits the ground in the endzone of said defending team.

Sorry for the delay on this.

These questions came straight off the SEC officials test. Surprisingly many of them missed it despite a similar call in a BCS bowl game last year. This crew does a good job of getting it correct and the announcer even references the Texas v ATM play from 2004.

At least in the past decade he learned the rules. It is amazing how wrong they are while they discuss it here. One of them thinks the ball is dead as soon as it is kicked. :meds: No wonder so many think the officials are not doing their job.

my uncle played for OU and was asst coach at Arkansas and ATM still laughs about some of the shite he saw before it was on replay.

In both of those YouTube clips though the crews got them correct.

Just as an FYI the Big XII began play in 1996.
