Happy Independence Day fellow citizens

It's a beautiful day here in the flyover and a great day to be a proud American. No special plans, just watch some baseball, grill some burgers and brats and go watch a fireworks display later. The exurb of Gladstone, aka "Happy Rock" always puts on an awesome show.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that July 4th is also Mrs. Wags birthday which this year happens to be her 50th. She hasn't said much about it, but I know she's freaking out inside over hitting the big 5-0. I've told her not to worry about it, I hit that milestone 18 months ago and she'll never catch me. Women seem to worry more about their age than men though.
Anyways, Happy 4th of July, shitstains!

It's because men age like fine whine while women's stock only declines with age.
Happy Independence Day, and don't forget about DC's disenfranchisement.

The thing about buying over priced fireworks, as least for me, is that you can never have enough. I've wasted shit loads of money on them over the years, some years buying so much I was up past midnight just trying to blow them all off. And what did I have to show for it the next day? Boxes full of garbage.
So last year and this, I decided not to waste any more cash on trash. Public displays are better anyway.

Happy 4th to all my American cousins, but especially Wags and Scott.
You definitely know how to get your grillin' on...in style!

aw, thanks Marty, my Canuckian broham... but I must confess I'm a rank amateur when it comes to grillin', a minor league wannabe in a big league BBQ town.
It's hard to fuck up burgers and brats though.

Nothing like the 4th of July and I mean nothing. People out everywhere celebrating a unique American holiday. All the neighbors on my street and every damn street in town and it's like WWIII with these fucking pyros, just non-stop.
I read where KC is the 2nd largest market in fireworks sales, next to San Antonio, and I believe it. They'll be shooting this shit off until well past midnight and my poor dogs are scared shitless.
Happy Rock put on a helluva' show, it gets better every year but the traffic getting out of there gets worse and they need some damn porta-potties. Not for me, I'll piss anywhere, but the wifey is too damn modest.

My boy came home from school on Wednesday night, and his 21st birthday was on Tuesday, so we celebrated his and our nation's birthdays yesterday with some carne asada on the grill and plenty of Modelos.

I think we could've taken out your bunch last night, Scott, if we could've fought our way out of Raymore. This town is nuts! We had a whole friggin' sunroom buried in mortar shells and rockets after the kids prepped for last night's show, and that was just to keep up with the neighbors..
Chicken and brats at the Truman's as well - hope everybody had a great Fourth!

One thing you flyovers have that we don't...fireworks.
If we tried to light any of that shit off we'd have the fire department, and probably the Sheriffs, down on us right quick.
The only way to see fireworks around here is at a commercial or public display. The fourth is always the last day of the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar and they usually have a great show, which you can see from all up and down the beach, but half the time I've gone to see them it was overcast.

oh, they're illegal here as well but the cops turn a blind eye for the most part, unless somebody complains, which apparently doesn't happen much. Kinda' tough to enforce a law that 100,000 people are breaking all at once.
But a few years ago cops came down our street and confiscated everybody's fireworks and gave out warnings. I'm like "seriously"? They were serious alright.
I didn't see one cop car last night. I guess they figured it was futile, and it is. They might be able to fuck up a few peoples 4th but there's no way they can even begin to put a dent in the overall festivities.

Same shit out here too, Scott. Gave the municipal park shows a serious run for their money. Kid had a whole bag full of M-80s... And a quarter-stick. I'm sure the coyotes were cowering in their dens when those damn things went off. I know it pissed off the geese...
Somebody out south of us must've sent up about 75 Chinese Lanterns. Have you seen these?! Coolest thing ever, but you have to wonder if they truly extinguish before they make landfall. Nothing like fire raining down from the skies onto a wood shake roof.
And yes, Wags, other than bottle rockets (which we hurled at each other anyway), the law sez anything goes in Hootermore - but you BETTER be done by midnight. Officer Friendly takes unkindly to being rousted out of bed at 2 a.m...

When I was a kid we use to do them at the end of our cul-de-sac and everybody on the street contributed. When the cops started showing up we moved to a backyard.
That was suburbia, though, and not so dangerous. In the neighborhood I'm in now (Tinderbox, CA), if I saw anybody shooting off fireworks I'd probably go confiscate them myself.

Helluva' show there, Scott. You must have had every kid on the block lighting them off simultaneously, about $3-4 hundred in less than 10 minutes, up in smoke. Don't you have any street lights?

He thinks that by doing that, he eliminates the white trash label / connection. But by mentioning it, he makes us want to see it, to see just how much white trash they are ?

Went to a fireworks show sponsored by the local Volunteer Firefighters Assoc last night.... great show.
Some people left and went home, saw a huge fire in their hood. Sure enough, it was at their place. Lucky it was just in a 20 yd dumpster in the drive way, since they were moving out, but was enough of a fire to melt the front windows, blister most of the paint. Had to scramble to cover the call, already was 4 other working calls in the District at the time.
Aerial fireworks are not sold in Oregon, but just across the river in WA you have huge stores that sell millions and a lot comes back to OR.

How is that online international dating thing going for you? If you can't hook one then it should tell you to STFU here. Only Diego has your back.

Well...all I can say is that San Diego is one fucked up dysfunctional city for the most part, except for the weather.
And, I don't live in San Diego. Hence, even though I go to Petco Park occasionally my taxes ain't payin' for it.
