I don't pretend to know everything that has happened to get them to this place, but having a family member who has worked there I do know more than the average non-Detroiter. White flight, taxes and mismanagement are the biggest reasons why the city finds itself in this situation.

Detroit has lost 30% of its population since 2000. It has lost 2% since April 2010. Today the population is almost 83% black, 7% Hispanic and 8% white. Since 2000, the city has lost 26% of its businesses.

On top of that Detroit has a city income tax. If you live in the city you pay 2.4% of your non-adjusted income from your Federal Return. If you work in the city but don't live there you pay 1.2% of your non-adjusted income. All businesses located within the city pay 2% of all their non-adjusted income.

How does Detroit recover? Taxing their way out certainly isn't going to work. Who would start a business in Detroit today when you and your employees would be better off if the business were located 10 miles away?

I heard they passed a 'right to work' law of some kind so that's a step in the right direction. Next is they need to get rid of the union's bullshit and find a way out from under all those ridiculous pensions. Downtown and a few pocket neighborhoods are the only 'hoods with any value or worth salvaging, unfortunately. It's the surrounding 'hoods that are Michael Bay territory.

You don't see Kershaws around here. You have to order online. I'm well aware that Gerber was bought out, but for basic utility and simple usage, they don't cost much either. The best and most simple utility tool I have is a very simple Gerber machete. It's just a utility tool that could prolly drop smackaholics "deck" in 10 minutes.

I still am waiting for an explanation for why using the strobe option on a TAC light is foolish. As long as you don't hold the pressure switch down for more than a second, I don't see a problem.
