Saban to Austin, on the UT boards.

where they are hiring Vince Lombardi and Obi Wan too.

edit: hiring Kiffin was a bad joke anyway, not like i'm shocking anyone here. except the swingers.

What an overreaction to a minor setback. Kiffin was just starting to turn the team around, build trust with his players, and bring back the swagger to the sparse mausoleum crowds.

They'll probably bring in Del Rio who'll initiate slogans like "the UCLA monopoly is over"...or some such....

We're seriously bummed out about the firing of Kiff.
Sincerely,
The rest of the teams on SC's schedule.

I guess the PAC's get-out-of-South Central-free card just expired.

I hear Neuheisel is available.

If you think Haden is a Domer, you definitely don't want Gruden. His father was a ND assistant under Devine and his alarm clock is set to the ND Victory March.

Del Rio or Fisher would look to me like your best bet. Sarkisian would take the job, but prior to this year, his record at Washington was very mediocre. Is this season a sign that they're turning the corner or just a blip on the radar screen? No way to know just yet.

I hear Ted Tollner is available.

USC offered a million a year for a baseball coach, they are saying on the radio shows that the school will be offering 6-7 million a year base salary for a new HFC if its Gruden
So USC is now 0-2 on its top two candidates. Both Gruden (directly) and Edwards (thru Dan Patrick) have said they weren't interested. So how is that plan of bringing them in now to recruit working out for you?

The longer this takes the worse off USC is. I don't understand how you fire a coach in the middle of the season without knowing exactly who you are going to have come in and take over.

Despite what Schmick says or thinks, USC alum Pat Haden is a very smart man. My guess is he has had a list of potential replacements since the day he was hired and inherited that dishonest shitbag Kiffin. I highly doubt he will use a search firm as he has likely started the vetting process of his top candidates a year or so ahead of time. My guess is as soon as the season is over; if Haden wants to hire a current college coach we will hear something within the week. If it takes longer than that, it’s someone from the NFL.

In fact, I bet the new head coach has already been approached through a third party. And it is likely not someone that internet posters or lazy journalists deem a “front runner.”

LOS ANGELES -- Apparently even people who don't work for USC are trying to hire the Trojans' next football coach.

USC athletic director Pat Haden said Monday that two people pretending to be representatives of his school have contacted two coaches and attempted to discuss the Trojans' coaching vacancy with them.

USC has identified the imposters and is taking "appropriate action," the school said in a blog post on its website.

The Trojans (3-2, 0-2 Pac-12) fired Lane Kiffin on Sept. 29 and installed Ed Orgeron as their interim coach while Haden looks for a new leader for one of the nation's highest-profile programs.

Haden said somebody pretending to be a USC official repeatedly tried to speak to an unnamed member of the Denver Broncos' coaching staff about the opening. Jack Del Rio, the Broncos' defensive coordinator and the former Jacksonville head coach, is a former USC linebacker who has been linked to the job before Kiffin was hired and after he was fired.

Another phony school representative contacted Tony Dungy, the former Tampa Bay and Indianapolis coach. Dungy talked about his apparent contact with USC on a national radio show Monday, saying he turned down the representative and outlining what the Trojans need in a new coach.

Dungy later tweeted that he had been misled by "someone acting on their own." He apologized to Haden for the mix-up.

"Tony's discussion on the radio today of being contacted by USC was a complete surprise to us," Haden said. "So were the calls made to the Broncos. I can assure you no authorized representative of USC or our athletic department made these calls."

Haden has said Orgeron will coach the Trojans for the rest of the season, but his early firing of Kiffin freed USC to spend plenty of time planning its next move. Haden indicated USC is unlikely to do extensive formal interviews for the next two months.

USC's next game is Thursday night at the Coliseum against Arizona.

"As I said last week, we will not comment on every name that comes out," Haden said. "It would be a disservice to our players and coaches, who are devoting everything they have into the remainder of our season. We have a head coach right now in Ed Orgeron. We have not offered the job to anyone."

No he wasn't and yes they did. He was 10-25 in 3 years and the year after he was fired, Ole Miss went 9-4. His offenses made Tyrone Willingham look like John Fox. He was an unmitigated disaster as a head football coach.

That having been said, it wouldn't surprise me in the least for Notre Dame to piss down their leg in two weeks and lose to that mouth breathing hill william.

He was a damn good recruiter. I do hope USC keeps him as head coach. They'll only get worse.

I can't understand schmick's hatred for Haden. I always thought of him as a bright dude. I guess he misses Mike Garrett's performance as AD.
We miss Garrett's performance as SC AD.

Funny, I always thought Haden worked for NBC, not ND. Minor little detail, I know, but still . . .

And btw, I'm pretty sure Fredo hates us just as much as you do, but last I checked, two of their own (Mayock and the Mullet) were working ND games for NBC. I'm also pretty sure they're never disowning the Mullet. Just sayin'.
Haden is the worst thing that has ever happened to USC athletics
I'm pretty sure Haden inherited both Laney Kitten and USC's :hfal: attitude toward NCAA sanctions. But if that attitude helps you to sleep at night . . .

But in any event, I see you completely ignored my earlier implied question, so I'll repeat it, a bit more explicitly this time.

If you think Haden is a Domer, why in the world would you want Gruden, who is much more of a Domer than Haden ever dreamed of being?

I'm not usually inclined to agree with Schmick, and I'm certainly no fan of Laney Kitten, but I just came across this. Old news, but if the reports are true, pure bush league on Haden's part. Not allowing Kiffin to ride the team bus back to campus??? WTF is that?

On the brighter side, this being ND-USC week, thought I'd share this (the first thing I came across anyway). Gave me a chuckle.
