Re: Ha-Ha's Not So Funny
The NCAA is kind of in a tizzy after USC, where they were a little tough on one of their best cash cows.
So they took it easier on tOSU, who are a massive cash cow, even though their offenses were worse than USC's (absolutely flagrant).
Oregon is slowly becoming a cash cow, so they took it easier on less flagrant offenses.
PSU wasn't a football violation, but in the nation's collective horror over the events (a sentiment universally shared by all but the involved parties), but in an ala-Congress moment, busted a "it's for the childen" move, and brought the hammer. But alas, PSU has a mighty big fan base, and could certainly be included in the "cash cow" set.
And with every whack to a blueblood, the NCAA sees their revenue decline. The business became to big, and too bottom-line oriented. Really strange dynamic, in that the more power they weild, the more power (by "power," I mean $$$) they lose. Kind of the ultimate catch-22.
If they're an organization of integrity (that was hard to type-BTW) they'll drop a daisycutter on the repeat offender of repeat offenders (when did their last probation end, like 3 days ago?). If they are who we thought they were, they'll let it go (like Money Badger and cohorts).
Seems like the PAC, B1G, SEC, B12, ACC, MWC, and AAC should blow up the NCAA, and start their own deal. Just a thought.
