OK, a great great grandson. But who counts when talking of men who laid down his life while standing on guard for thee.
It turns out my great, great grandfather, one Theodore Smith of Hamilton was a fireman who died in the line of duty. Of course before bravely sacrificing his life for the people of Canada, he first made sure to sire my great grandmother, Mary Smith, who eventually named my grandfather Theodore Smith .....
You didn't think I'd give the info whores that much to work with? ;)
Anyway, should any of my Canadian brothers from another mother feel like paying their respects, his name can be found on the Ontario Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Toronto and at the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial recently dedicated in Ottawa.
My great great grandfather was the Archbishop of Canterbury... a rather notable one at that.
Suck it.

Oh, you have a preacher in your family tree? How quaint.
I have Cotton, Increase and Richard Mather in mine.
But seriously, this thread is for sons of CANADIAN heroes.

Actually Bri, as you know, threads go where they go, just like rivers.
At any rate, MY great, great uncle worked with Henry Ford and made a shit load of money in oil and left a third of it to my father, who in turn, left it to me.
Now THAT is scoreboard.

Trust me. Being roasted alive in a horrific fiery inferno is a sweet release compared to spending even one day in "The Hammer".

Marty,
I was planning to visit Hamilton to do some research on my Canadian roots. Should I bring protective gear? Is it worse than Newark, New Jersey?

Isn't Hamilton where the prison is? I have a friend who has a few stories from Hamilton.

Wonder how many others have Canadian roots? I'm married to a Canadian gal (now a US citizen) and also my maternal Grandmother was a Canadian. No heroes as such that I know of. One of my Grandmother's brothers was killed in a gas attack in WWI. KIA is close enough I guess.

But seriously, I have a lot of fond memories of weekends at my aunt's place (Hamilton-Mountain) when I was a kid.
My cousins still live there, but I haven't visited in a while.

Only if you pimp shit like that ^, bizarre uniform fetishes don't extend north of the border. For the most part they're wankers who steal construction jobs when not erecting monuments to themselves in their off-hours.

You've found the uniform but not the fetish. Spot the difference. Professional brawl-breaker-uppers in Nunavut don't inspire idolatry or melodrama.

Never been to Hamilton but have driven by it many, many times on the QEW. From what you can see from the road, it doesn't look like a place I'd wish to spend any time.

1) Did you have to pass some test to become Jewish?
2) Did you have a belated Bar Mitzvah?
3) Is your foreskin sliced?

No. I was born Jewish. It was only revealed to me recently, as my mom concealed her Hebrew-ness for the sake of her dear son, against all who would do him harm.
poptart wrote:2) Did you have a belated Bar Mitzvah?
Yes. We had cake and pony rides...and a bouncy castle.

I probably would, too.

My eldest brother lives in GB, where his wife originally hales from. They lived in Memphis for awhile.
My eldest sister recently moved back to Madison from Tulsa after retiring. She lived there for quite a bit, thru 2 failed marriages. I went there in like 1975 to visit and saw the first Star Wars movie at some mall while also buying my first Led Zep album, IV. I was 13 at the time. Went back about 13 years later for her 2nd wedding, a mixed Catholic/Quaker clusterfuck. She sure could pick 'em. Next to my mom, the nicest lady I've ever known.
There goes the fucking neighborhood.
Don't sweat it, they're nothing like me other than the last name. My whole family are liberal, scholastic types. Hope my brother and I can find time for a game or two of chess. He's quite good, one of the best I've ever faced off against.

I have no idea what this means so I'll tell a story about that wedding instead of lashing out...
During the Quaker part of the service they had this "5 minutes of silence" portion. Catholics are anything but silent. My brothers and I, seated in the same pew, started looking at each other about halfway thru and started laughing our fucking asses off, unable to contain ourselves. This didn't go over well with the Quaker half of the assemblage but we didn't care... until our mother turned around from the front row and gave us a look that could kill. We shaddup right quick then, but the damage was done.
