Wheeling Federal Building Shooter Dead: Cops

WHEELING, W.Va. -- WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) — The mayor of a West Virginia city where a man was killed by police after firing multiple rounds at a U.S. courthouse says the gunman was retired police officer.

Wheeling Mayor Andy McKenzie says police who briefed him after Wednesday's courthouse assault told him the man was a 20-year-plus veteran of the force. He says the man retired 13 years ago.

McKenzie said the retired officer's name was not being released immediately.

U.S. marshals said the man used what they described as an assault-type rifle to fire 15 to 25 shots at the Wheeling Federal Building.

One person was injured inside by flying debris.

Too bad there weren't more guns at Newtown, Aurora, VaTech, Columbine, Ft Hood, the building Smackie works in, etc.....

There are guns out there. There are assholes out there. Neither of these facts will change. So there is one way and one way only to address the problem. Put "more guns" out there in the hands of responsible people. And by responsible people, I include non-union private sector types as we are a fairly sizable majority.

A reasonable person might assume that he was actually trying to shoot people along with inanimate objects. There is one reason why he was not successful. Someone else with one of those evil guns used theirs to send his sorry ass to the next world. Maybe in that world, carrying a weapon to defend yourself and others is not necessary.
