I would have never guessed

5 star recruit who was destined for the 1st round of the NFL draft and a potential All American suddenly up and quits once the school year starts. How can that be?

EUGENE, Ore. - Former Oregon Duck football player Colt Kelikoa Lyerla was arrested in Eugene Wednesday on drug charges, police said.

Police said they spotted the 20-year-old sitting in a parked car near 7th Avenue and Polk while they were working on an unrelated drug investigation. Police said Lyerla appeared to be snorting a white powdery substance.

Police said Lyerla admitted to using and possessing cocaine. They agreed to meet at his home but police said once there, Lyerla ran from his car and into a nearby apartment.

Police arrested him a short time later after he came out.

Lyerla faces charges of possessing cocaine and interfering with a police officer.

Colt Lyerla left Oregon football program earlier this season, saying the decision was his and that he is withdrawing from the University of Oregon on good terms. He missed two games this year, including the Colorado game. He was kept out for unspecified violations of team rules.

He said he left the team for personal reasons and intends to pursue a professional football career.

Lyerla, a 2012 honorable mention All-Pac 12 selection, finished his college career with 34 catches for 565 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Not sure why dude didn't immediately head back to Hillsboro, where he's a freaking hero, after taking a perennial laughingstock to the state championship (as an aside, HilHi has 2 football heros in their entite existence, a buddy of mine being the other... and both of them are originally from Hawaii).

Kinda doubt the NFL scouts were too impressed. Shame. From a fan standpoint, I wish him the best -- and there's not one, but two serious studs in the stable to replace him (Johnny Mundt is quite awesome, true frosh).

Brilliant.

Him for running, when they knew who he was, or the cops for letting him drive home after they observed him doing drugs?

SAurprised it wasn't meth, since that's a pretty big deal in Eugene/Lane County.

I think the last guy to make it big out of the city of Hillsboro ended up playing QB for Tennessee for a while. I seem to remember he drugged his way right out of the NFL.

At least he made the NFL and got some paychecks before he flamed out (sup Erik Ainge).

I don't see the problem here...

The guy is going through exactly what I went through when I was receiving 10 letters a week at high school from my sophomore year to my senior year. Much more my Junior year when we were the 2nd ranked team in California and won the North Coast Section Championship for the second year in a row. I actually think the teachers were as annoyed by the whole process... as I was.

I decided to pass on football after being hosted in L.A. by Jo Jo Townsell.. who was playing for fUCLA at the time. Good guy who went on to play for the Jets in the NFL.

I realized, I didn't want to spend the rest of my life waking up the next day and feeling like I got hit by a truck.

I was 18... for fucking sake !

Went to Cal for 9 months... and found out the competitiveness of nerds and 5 story buildings wasn't for me.

Best move I ever made.

Oh yeah, I could use a line right about now...

Can't wait for the explanation of this line. Why were your teachers annoyed by the process? Was one your legal guardian?

Maybe if they took the waste from Papa Willie's liposuction and tacked it on me.

As a very young man, I knew a gal who could have been Susanna Hoffs' twin sister. Still the most beautiful woman I've ever met. She was in the process of becoming my girlfriend... then she died.

Of course. I mean who wouldn't pass up the opportunity to play "Big Time Power College Football" for a career hawking wind chimes at Ren Faires?

I can certainly relate. I myself was actually a 12 star recruit coming out of 8th grade. Our high school consistently ranked even better than number one and never lost a state championship. I would have easily been the first player to ever win three Heismans at three different positions and gone on to a first ballot hall of fame career in the NFL.

It was too much of a hassle, though, so I decided to get filthy rich deep frying turkey legs at Ren Faire instead. Best decision I ever made.

Ummm... no.

... and you should be proud you still have your southern education.

Papa Willie wrote:It's amazing what liberals will pay for trash.

Southern and Midwestern "Republicans" have cornered the market on poor white trash.

You couldn't afford to sleep on the streets of Berkeley.

You see, the liberals here don't believe in giving out free trailers to live in for the white trash that shows up on the streets... like they do in the south/Georgia.

"Liberals" can afford to pay 7 figures for a nice crib because they believe in this crazy "liberal" thing called "an education and a work ethic".

If you don't believe in those things... you end up like you (living in a shithole called Georgia) or like mvscal (who now lives in Iowa or Nebraska, or some shithole in the Midwest).

It's rather sad for you... that you'll never enjoy the finer things in life (like living in the most beautiful place in the world) because you want to leach off the government for housing and food stamps... in the land of overachievers.

Things you'll never enjoy... til the day you die

Not to go all Dins on you, but a simile is a comparison using the word like or as, as in . . .

2oodles is as flaming as Justin Timberlake.

everybody knows m2's previous handler (no, not the swashbuckling and jerkin wearing greeter at the Ren).....used some horseshit "dripping sarcasm" smilie to deflate open refutation.** heavy on the emoticon smilie crap.

i didn't really mean the nonsense i was spouting when circumstance and fact proved me wrong....so i was going over the head with sarcasm.

war the trolls.

**my personal fave was that every player on the Cal roster had at least a 3.4 GPA. one looks at all-academic Pac 10 and since 3.3 is all-academic....and there are like 4 Cal players from a 100 guy roster...."Cal is too tough, if only they were USC....and private schools which cheat on grades".

brilliant work. the reflexive nature of it is so brilliant i want to believe it was planned trolling.
