It was a busy weekend. Friday night we saw Marlon Wayans. I would definitely recommend seeing his show if the chance ever is there for you.
Saturday another comedy show. Josh Blue. He has cerebral palsy and the jokes are there from his inability to eat with chopsticks to inability to roll a joint. While he was very funny, his warm up acts left much to be desired and we painfully had to sit through them. The real hilarity came when the second one asked. Smackie Chan what he did for a living. Without missing a beat he remarked., "I review comedy acts". The comedian who was on stage dying was suddenly worried and admitted to being in trouble.
Tonight on to another adventure. I am going to brave some of Smackie Chan's chili and then a concert. We are going to see Sparks, hopefully after the chili I won't be firing off any sparks of my own.

I went easy on the poor unfunny bastard by refraining from telling him he could find my review in the obituaries.

Comedy is such a relative thing. Some people I know are just downright funny, but don't think they could do it for any length of time in front of a bunch of strangers. There are some on this board who i suspect have the ability to crack jokes off the cuff, but could not sustain any prolonged routine and still be that funny. It does take a very special talent, and might I add without stooping to outright vulgarity. Sorry folks. Tossing out a ton of F-bombs is not comedy. Some of the best comedy was written during super strict censorship.
It's that way in movies too. There are a lot of films promoted as comedies that I would be hard pressed to get even a belly laugh from any of them. Then there are those which for whatever reason seem to hit a nerve/funny bone and has bits and routines to which you can relate.
In that regard, the funniest movie I ever saw at the time was "Animal House". I'm telling you I never laughed so hard in my life. My sides hurt. No I wasn't stoned. Yeah everything is funny when you're high, but I was sober as a judge. It seemed like there was just one laugh out loud funny bit after another. The portrayal of many aspects of college life like I experienced made it almost believable.
Just an observation from some old fart. Get off my lawn you damn kids!!

Young Robin Williams was very funny, and you could give major credit to Jonathan Winters, perhaps the best improv comic ever, for Williams craft.

Carlin's career can simplistically be broken into two phases: the cool, laid-back comic who did character voices like the Hippy Dippy Weatherman and wove personal experiences into his routines, and the ranter/screamer/social critic that he became later. The first phase exemplified on albums like Occupation: Foole and Class Clown was much funnier, imo.

Different strokes, I guess. I much prefer the social critic from Back in Town/You Are All Diseased to the pot smoking George from Occupation: Foole!/Toledo Window Box.
Dennis Leary can thank Bill Hicks for the material and Carlin for the delivery.

And every comic can thank Lenny Bruce for setting the stage. He took the bullet for all comedians. Some say he paved the way for just the comedians who use profanity in their routines. But Lenny was grander than that. He paved the way to allow “free speech” in entertainment, to which genius comics like Carlin and Leary, are indebted.
However, the name I haven't seen listed here, is my favorite comic of all time. Richard Pryor. The way Pryor wove his own life, his pain and his brutal honesty, admitting his faults and transgressions, combined with his physical action, like describing his heart attack and burning, were brilliant. Pryor wore his bloodied heart on his sleeve and wasn't afraid to show it. No comic has ever made me laugh harder.

KC Scott wrote:and richard Pryor can thank Redd Foxx
Yes, I agree Scott, to a point. Foxx had a very specific influence on a number of comics, including Pryor. He worked blue and did it well. But Foxx was primarily a joke comic, while Pryor used his own experience and pain to weave stories about himself, racism and relationships. He was a story teller, not unlike Cosby, just a lot dirtier and funnier. Cosby was brilliant at weaving stories from his childhood and fantasies, making them funny and sweet. Pryor did something similar, but his comedy was infused with deeper meaning and cruel lessons, but always with an ultimate upside of hope. And he was fucking funny as hell.
So yes, much respect to Redd Foxx. Pryor took it to a whole different stratosphere.

I always thought that was the worst part of RP, that he couldn't get beyond that brand and do something a little deeper.

What are you talking about MS? Pryor was as deep a comic thinker as there was, with the possible exception of Bruce or Carlin. His ability to integrate his troubled life and past were what made his material shine. If you think that was the worst part of his comedy, then you just don't get him, or comedy in general. What the fuck, should he have worn a white suit and stuck a fake arrow through his head? Slap around a bunch of props and bad puns and smash watermelons?
So if you think that was Pryor's weakness, what was his strength?

I see your degree in pathological psychology has paid off Papa. This goes to the very dark heart of Midget Fail's deep, hairy rooted psychosis. His homosexual lusting for black cock in conjunction with his insecurity concerning his dwarfism, has manifested itself in an ever increasing, downward spiraling descent into madness and depression. He's just seeking justification for his pitiful existence by lashing out for attention, especially from gay black men.
Not to worry, he will soon go the way that Todd has always been destined for. All sick freaks eventually take care of themselves in a final, prejudicial manner.

He is in the Comedy hall of fame on the strength of Blazing Saddles alone and I loved the Amin skits, but for stand up I liked the Dracula type of stuff better than a story about how he burnt up. There is no depth to it. Yea drugs are bad and you fucked up. Not nearly as funny to me, but then I'm not a dumbshit like you.

A) What the fuck do you care if I post to mvskkkal about his need for black cock? Why the fuck do you care? Are you a racist? Why would you give me more grief about it that you do him?

So many questions, and all so stupid. Point by point, tiny. I don't care what or if you post to mvscal, or anybody else for that matter. But this whole black cock thing is your "bag" so to speak. You constantly keep bringing it "up", and the innuendos keep right on sailing over that itty bitty noggin' of yours. As to racism, that again is on you. Mvscal is more of a judge of character than an actual racist, even if his judgements are often misdirected. That is why I don't give him grief. You on the other hand are like a piñata filled with shit infused candy. Admittedly, a very tiny one, but still so easy to hit.
B) If what you are saying is true what does it say about your need to always talk about me? Are you a faggot? [Hartman]Do you suck dicks? Are you a peter puffer?[/Hartman]
See, there you go with the homo allusions again. Seriously squirt, just come on out of the closet already, go down on your fantasy dream boy mv and be happy in your own midget skin for the first time in your miserable little life. This charade of yours has played itself out. You are found guilty of stupidity, abuse and misuse of the word fuck, guilty of not being able to see the BIG picture and just being a complete douche nozzle in general.

Like how he calls the POTUS a mvscal? Like how he calls just about any other black person he comments on a mvscal? You are a racist if you actually feel that way.

That's a character reference you moron, as he has explained repeatedly. Now I'm not going to justify every comment he has ever made regarding the "n" word, but in this instance, I agree with him about Obluegums. Anyone who is bereft of character, as he is, who is a liar, a thief, a fraud and is certifiably an evil cunt in every aspect, that mother fucker is a niqqer. It's got nothing to do with skin color. Just like you have nothing to do with pushing away from the table in your little high chair. Ease off the daily pitchers of cock infused beer and you might just shrink that gut a bit.
And you are writing fallacy checks your butt can't cash.
Nope, that would be wrong. I just cashed one that was endorsed by your chubby midget digits and it certifies you as insane. Deposit that in your dick hole and smoke it. Again.

Bravo twatling, that must explain how you purchased that law degree from Shyster's 'R' Us, since you weren't able to get as far as even a community college. Hell, we sure as fuck know you didn't go to
