He might be a good coach, but I'll always consider him a bitch. Not because he left for LSU - guess I can't blame him for that - but because he openly whined about having to be in Michigan's shadow. He talked about it being too much of an obstacle to overcome. Now MSU has a coach who not only doesn't fear UofM, but kicks their asses.

And in his four years at MSU, Saban never fielded a defense anywhere close to what Dantonio/Narduzzi have built. The '99 squad that beat Florida in the Citrus Bowl had some NFL talent, but still a few notches below. The offenses, pretty comparable. Dantonio has gotten better QB play. Saban's teams perhaps ran the ball better.

Sure, he can dominate when he's handed the reigns of a traditional power, but what can he do with a middling program? Apparently not much, at college or the NFL.

I can't recall who that poster was.

Every football factory has had some lean years here and there. If you can't win at a place like Bama, with all their built-in advantages, then you're just a shitty coach.

It was probably me.

You cannot deny that bama had reached the point where not only did they HAVE to offer a coach 5 mil, they also HAD to let him run the program without interference from the Red Elephant Club.

If you spend it, they will come.

I also pointed out back then that bama had spent major coin on facilities in this thread: http://www.theoneboard.com/board/viewto ... =5&t=20839

I'm glad I looked it up, Chizik to bama!
