Any Navy guys feel free to comment. New technology for the US Navy. And with a Captain named James Kirk, how cool is that?

I worked on that program til about a year ago. Have been aboard it while in the early stages of construction in Bath, ME. Impressive ship, but it'll have some considerable issues, as most first-of-class hulls do.

Who cares, what we need is the F-35.

The sterility of look and lack of detail intrigued me. Add on the stupid ship-name and campy nod to Star Trek in the form of a captain, sealed the deal.
At least paint some pointy teeth on the bow.

88, look at the weapons description and notice the "Anti-Terrorism (space reserved)" being noted in that pic. Can you guess who those clowns may be onboard?

What is a ship like that going to do?
The same thing destroyers have been doing for centuries, dumbshit. Since WW2, their primary mission is to provide ASW support to carrier battle groups. They are also well adapated to coastal patrol and interdiction as well as a dedicated land attack capablity.
If you can't see a role for a ship like that, then you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, so sit down and shut up, idiot.

It would make more sense to paint giant bushy eyebrows on it.

The sterility and lack of detail is by design. Detail causes radar returns and tends to make shit get ripped off in 50 ft seas. I suspect that thing will have the radar signature of a sunfish.

I think they already figured out where to install the "Bulbous Object."

Why do we need it?
It looks like they could setup some hoops on the aft deck and play full court on that fugly sumbitch.
Other than that, when you have a $600 billion military budget, you have to spend it on something.

Your team is among the "elite" in the nation. Unfortunately the fanbase hasn't evolved WITH them. They cry if someone actually tries to defend them. Mariota showed a lot of class (and earned a lot of respect from THIS Bruinfan) by shrugging off aggressive, but not dirty hits.
Maybe they're just not used to seeing their guys get tackled. Might even get stopped on a drive or two next time out...but probably won't warrant a utube video trying to describe how they were violated.

So the new ship keeps firing well after a truce has been declared and rams enemy ships with its bow?

Who said anything about
our coasts, idiot? Like it or not, we are a mercantile power with global interests. We have been from the founding of our nation. George Washington's asinine policy of paying tribute to Muslim pirates in the Mediterranean lasted all of about five years after his cute little speech about avoiding foreign entanglements.
There is no "avoiding foreign entanglements." The trick is picking the right ones and separating legitimate commerical/strategic interests from wild goose chases in the ass end of nowhere which do not serve our national interests. Our first and best line of defense has always been the United States Navy. That is the absolute
last service that we should be looking to cut.
The Zumwalt class DDG isn't a replacement for the Arleigh Burke. It has heavier guns, a greater land attack capability and a much lower radar profile. We can definitely use those capabilites....yes, to kill "brown people."
