In contrast, in my family growing up, on both sides, football is more Thanksgiving than fucking turkey.

I had the option of attending two different T-givings', went with the one that would most assuredly have football, drinks and better company. The food won't be as good but that's okay.

My first Thanksgiving off in five years. I usually fry a Turkey for the shift, bake a couple chocolate pies, and whip up some deviled eggs. The other fellas do a crawfish casserole, candied yams, rolls, green beans, stuffing, and a couple of other sides.

This year, I've been told to do absolutely nothing which is different. This week, I sold our third vehicle, fixed a faucet and fan motor on the fridge, spent $1100 at Macy's yesterday (knocked out almost the entire family in half a day), and I managed to get laid by the ol' behemoth and live to tell about it.

So today...it's all about the football.

While I am not a football fan I realize it is part of Thanksgiving and always has been in my family. I am thankful for many things. The most important being Smackie Chan so today my daughter and I cater to a wonderful man..... Football, beer turkey dinner with the works. Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving dinner is all done. The Mrs and the in laws are going to a musical and then late night shopping. I am leaving for Austin as we speak to partake in a tailgate. Dont have a game ticket, but both teams suck when playing decent teams so the chances are good of finding one for free.

I don't dispute that Jimmy Stewart is in a class by himself but Hanks does conduct himself with decorum and, obviously, has a great deal of respect for WW2 vets. That much is clear from his involvement with SPR and Band of Brothers.

I think the modern day Jimmy Stewart comparison refers to Hanks' ability to portray the 'Average Joe' thrust into exceptional circumstances much like Stewart did. As actors they aren't all that far apart.
