The article doesn't imply causation in any way; never does try to state that being intelligent causes folks to drink more or vice versa. The whole point of the study is that there is positive correlation between intelligence (specifically early intelligence) and alcohol consumption.

I got that from the article, hence my observation.

The thread title, "The More you Drink, the smarter you are", implies, to me, that maybe there is cause and effect (or at least that's what Scott gleaned from the article).
It also implies that Scott probably doesn't drink very much.
