i still don't understand about those helmets...sometimes S sometimes Spartan helmet...

The block S was a George Perles thing. They wore those for his duration at MSU from '83 to '94. They broke them out for a season in the early 2000s as well. Otherwise, it's been all Spartan Head logo.

About three years ago, the athletic dept started using the Spartan head logo on everything, for all its sports teams, to create a more distinguished, singular brand. The S can still be found on merch and in other smaller capacities.
