They didn't go beyond #3, but I'd guess California would be right there. While they shut it down from 2-7AM (? help me out, Calis), you can get anything, including hard booze anywhere. 7-11, grocery store, liquor store, pretty much anywhere.

We're still state-run in Oregon, which sucks, but they leave the wine and beer alone, for the most part. We can only get hard liquor in state-run stores, but that might change soon. All bottles are the same price in every store, and the bars have to buy from those stores (although they can get deliveries) for the same price as the rest of us. They also just recently made it so you can get beer and wine in the bottle store, but that hasn't really taken off much.

Beer and wine is pretty much everywhere. And right now, someone got some laws changed or regulations eased, and are opening a Laundromat with beer and wine. Build a jackshack in the back, and Screwey would be in paradise.

Beer, wine and spirits at the government store (with a few exceptions) here in Ontario.
Much more civilised in Quebec, with beer and wine at the "dep" (corner store).

If you want to get a six pack of Moosehead, Lablast 50 Ale, or some other brew in Prescott Ontario, this is the place. They used to be called "Brewer's Retail" until they decided to go classless.

Missouri is fucking paradise on earth compared to Kansas. But no place should have that many places selling velvet Elvis portrait as Missouri has.

And PA liquor laws suck balls. No fun driving past 10 Quickie Marts just to find the state store.

Can't help out with the rationale of not selling alcohol during the early morning hours, but it was very convenient having it sold pretty much everywhere when I was underage & running around with my delinquent homies. While most establishments kept the hard stuff behind the counter where customers had to ask for it, there was a grocery store near where I lived that had it out in an aisle just like the rest of the groceries. When we were teenagers, a buddy of mine would wear a goose-down parka (even during SoCal summers) with roomy pockets inside & we'd mosey down that aisle so he could stock up on whatever we'd be drinking that night; the Southern Comfort & Bacardi phases are mostly what I recall. There was also a drive-thru dairy that would sell beer to us young'uns, so it often benefitted from our business, usually unloading a few sixers of Lowenbrau each week. Another friend had an Uncle Tommy who was unemployed & would run up a tab against his welfare checks at a local convenience store. My friends & I would recruit Uncle Tommy to go to the store, and we'd clean out the imported section of the beer cooler & walk past the cashier carrying as much beer as we could while Tommy told him to "put it on my tab."

Good times.

Fond memories of trips up to Ontario in the summer. Nothing like a run to the beer retail shop where we could bring all we wanted to drink back to our cabin. Crazy times. Customs must have known what we were up to, because they searched us coming and going. But we weren't stupid. Canadian brew was what we were there for, not importing illegal fish. Seriously, every fucking time they would search our cooler coming in.

I was thinking the same thing. Plus it's one of the few places where drinking in public isn't just allowed, but encouraged.

True, but that isn't saying much.

Being set on fire while gargling drano and having your testicles hacked off with a dull steak knife is "fucking paradise on earth compared to Kansas."

Having just driven thru the state of Wisconsin from one shitty corner to the other, a few observations on why I wouldn't live there:

1. Your roads suck, even the supposed "major" interstates. I didn't see one rest stop from Dubuque to Green Bay.

2. Your drivers suck. I can't count how many times I had to pass some dumb fuck driving in the left lane for no apparent reason other than, like you, they are dumb fucks.

3. Your gas cost at least $0.40 more per gallon and the cheaper grades were 10% ethanol. To get an honest gallon of gasoline without ethanol, I paid $3.64 per gallon. The same gallon of gas in the great state of Missouri cost $2.84 at the time.

You'd think with all those excessive gas taxes they could take better care of their roads and at least put a porta-potty every 50 miles or so.

4. Sin taxes on beer and smokes. Thankfully I brought my own supplies and didn't spend a dime in your fucked up state on such necessities.

5. Your weather sucks. When I left GB Friday morning after TG it was 9 degrees. When we got home 12 hours later, it was 42. The high that day had been 52.

6. You live there.

In summation, freaking Iowa is a better place to be than Wisconsin.

Alcohol cannot be served in a restaurant nor sold in a store between the hours of 2am-6am in both CA & WA.

Thank god we finally got away from the antiquated idea of state liquor stores last year.

Some states have strange laws and regulations concerning alcohol. I'll never forget when I was in college at the University of Maine and was at Pat's Pizza in Orono for beer and pizza. I was sitting at the bar and saw some fiends at a nearby table. I grabbed my beer and got up to go over to sit with them. The bartender proceeds to yell at me to stop and put the beer down. Seems that have/had this rule that you had to sit with your beer, no standing of moving around. The bar tender or server has to move your drinks.Lesson learned. I do not recall any other state with that law. Maine may not have it now, that was in 1957.
One other Maine thing I remember is last call being LAST CALL. No slamming down your drink. The bartender and servers clear the glasses and if you left some beer, too bad. Pain in the ass for drinkers, but great for bar staff. Wish they had that law in NY in my bar tending days.

If you drove from Dubuque to Green Bay, you spent very little time on any interstates. You won't find a lot of rest areas on the state highways you were driving on. And you also managed to avoid the nicest parts of Wisconsin.

If you really only drank beer you brought from Misery, you just totally fucked yourself.

You still smoke cigarettes, after having a stroke. You're pretty fucking stupid, even for a Missourian.

On top of all that, you're a weather pussy.

Next time, stay in Iowa and make all of us happy.
