The British Invasion

airs on CNN tonight and I plan on watching.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/30/showbiz/b ... ?hpt=hp_c3

No, there probably won't be anything new to be seen or heard but I'm nostalgic like that. Probably why I've read The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy about a half dozen times each.

Who else plans on watching?

I bet Jay does.

How did The Beatles' appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show" change America? Watch "The Sixties: The British Invasion" at 9 p.m. Thursday on CNN.
Morelike Dave Clark Five. They toured first and turned Sullivan down, Beatles were sloppy seconds.

I tell you what Wags, I'm down. Anything regarding the Fab 4 will garner my interest. Just because it's CNN, that is meaningless. Talk to you about it after the show.

Where were Paul Revere (and the Raiders?) when we needed them?

Of course, you wouldn't want to miss out on The Rachel Maddow show in that time slot. A tough decision for me as well.

But sacrifices must be made sometimes.

Just think of it as being about the Beatles and take the whole CNN thing out of the equation. I'm not a fan of the network either, but I'm following the info on the Beatles, even if it's just a rehash. Yeah, yeah, screw CNN as well, but that's where the show is.

What's so bad about CNN?

I watch it a lot more than I do Fox or MSNBC, that's for sure.

Of the 3, CNN is the least biased.

Actually, I don't have a personal problem with CNN. Hell, a former girlfriend of mine used to work there as a reporter. The "yeah screw CNN" was sarcasm, as others in this thread seem to dislike the network. I don't watch it much because I get my news from other sources. I detest MSNBC and as for Fox...eh, not my political spin.

I'll watch simply because I became a teenager (13) in 1960. Best musical decade ever. CNN sucks horse cocks.

I stand corrected. I saw plenty that I hadn't seen or heard before.

That was pretty fucking awesome.

they even threw in a token mention of The Beach Boys, whom I've grown a greater appreciation for since Jay schooled me on them many moons ago.

Watched a portion of it. Nothing really new to me. Funniest part was Mick Jagger looking like a Spaz at the TAMI show filming. Story has it that in those days Mick pretty much just stood at the Mic and sang without much movement ala the Beatles. The band had to follow James Brown and the Famous Flames. James whipped the crowd into a frenzy with his dance moves and theatrics. Mick realized they were a hard act to follow. Supposedly they stalled their set off so the crowd would be anxious to see them and forget about Brown. Mick then added some loopy looking action to their show. Must be he hired a choreographer or something later to smooth out his moves.

Not a bad job on the show last night. Covered a heck of a lot more bands than I expected, it's just a shame they couldn't devote more time to some of them. Some great old videos I had never seen before, just all too brief.

Sudden Sam wrote:Why would they mention the Beach Boys?
The same reason they mentioned James Brown and a few other Yanks. Influence and coming around at the same time. And yes, they featured Gerry and the Pacemakers. Herman's Hermits, The Zombies, The Yardbirds, Small Faces, The Who, Chad and Jeremy and The Move and dozens more all got time, just not enough. If it had been a two hour show it might have been more satisfying. Of course The Beatles were the focus, but not as much as you would imagine.

Or I could just watch the shitloads of Beatles videos on You Tube and not watch either CNN or MSNBC.

Errrrrr - the "Black in America" series would disagree with you.

I saw it - wasn't too bad. No mention of Cream, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Deep Purple and a few others was kinda dumb.
Hendrix? Dude was from the U&L.

I get where you're coming from B, but the show was really about the Invasion, with The Beatles as sort of the headline act. There were a number of other groups, as I mentioned, and the show contained a lot of material I had never seen before. The program would have been at home on any network, there was no CNN influence at all. I think you might have enjoyed it.

Not at all big guy. But what has me curious is why you can't take an occasional joke. That was ML's point a while back and you still don't get it.

Yeah, I guess I just don't get Jay's sense of "humor". Lots of people on this board make me laugh. He's just never been one of them. Kind of like TiC. Or Ken. Or Dan Vogel. Oh well.

And yet you have "racked" me on more than just one occasion Goober. Of course that was before ML and I had a little fun with you.

Goobs, in all seriousness, I think you are an okay guy. I mean that. Though you honestly can get a nasty little burr in your backside, can dish it out but don't seem to take it very well. If I'm wrong in this, eh, so be it. But that is how you come across and I ain't the only one to notice it.

To use your own line back at you, I don't care at all if I can make you laugh. Others do and I'm good with it.

Have a nice day Mr. McTuber. :)

I'd need to see a link/links on that.

I could have been drunk.

Or, it could have been a mercy rack.

Goober, I would be happy to link those threads up, as two come immediately to mind. But you have already built in an excuse or reason for having done so by saying you were drunk. And a "mercy rack"...please, no such thing bro. So why bother linking it up, when you're just going to dismiss it? Sorry, I'll pass.
