Don't worry...the only way you'd be carried away is with a skip loader.

Pix or you're lying.
Not lying. But in all honesty, I've had to lose weight to get there. After I had the knee replaced I got much more sedentary. I'm a shade under 6 foot, and finally pushed the needle past 200. A few months ago, I decided to make a few changes in diet and exercise.

I can't run anymore for exercise, but now I've got a stationary bike in the basement and ride that almost every day. I use http://www.myfitnesspal.com to track calories. I've lost 25 lbs, down to 180. I'd like to get back around 170, but the lbs come off a little more slowly now, as I'm sure you know. Congrats, BTW, on your weight loss. Keep it up, and you might even get the old lady back.

I may put up a picture, one from a year ago when I weighed about 205. But I'm waiting for a special occasion. You'll understand when you see it.

I sat down with a nutritionist for an hour and a half, so I have a pretty good idea of what I should and shouldn't eat.

The Atkins diet is bad for you. Another fad diet is the Wheat Belly diet, where you basically eliminate wheat. People do it and lose weight, but as the nutritionist pointed out, any time you eliminate a major food group from your diet, you're probably going to lose weight. Not necessarily healthy, though.

I don't have a blood sugar problem, so I don't totally avoid sugar, but I wasn't eating a ton of it anyway. There's nothing wrong with carbs, as long as you don't overdo it.

Alcohol - from what I've read, distilled spirits contain neither sugor nor carbs. Beer and wine is another story. The nutritionist did point out that alcohol will slow your metabolism. I generally have a couple of glasses of red wine in the evening, and an occasional microbrew. But for someone dealing with diabetes...
webmd.com wrote:If you have diabetes, drinking alcohol will cause your blood sugar to rise. Plus, alcohol has a lot of calories.

If you drink, do it occasionally and only when your diabetes and blood sugar level are well-controlled. If you are following a calorie-controlled meal plan, one drink of alcohol should be counted as two fat exchanges.

It is a good idea to check with your doctor to see if drinking alcohol is safe for you.

Here are some other ways that alcohol can affect diabetes:

While moderate amounts of alcohol can cause blood sugar to rise, excess alcohol can actually decrease your blood sugar level -- sometimes causing it to drop into dangerous levels.
Beer and sweet wine contain carbohydrates and may raise blood sugar.
Alcohol stimulates your appetite, which can cause you to overeat and may affect your blood sugar control.
Alcohol may also affect your judgment or willpower, causing you to make poor food choices.
Alcohol can interfere with the positive effects of oral diabetes medicines or insulin.
Alcohol may increase triglyceride levels.
Alcohol may increase blood pressure.
Alcohol can cause flushing, nausea, increased heart rate, and slurred speech.
These may be confused with or mask the symptoms of low blood sugar.
And cereal? 3/4 cup of Krave has less calories and sugar than 1/2 cup of Quaker granola. That's whack. But I eat a bowl of cereal most mornings.

Wheat bread is fine, I eat it all the time. You just have to read the label to make sure it's made from 100% whole wheat, not enriched wheat flour. It's not like you have to go to some specialty health food store to find it.

It's called lactose. They don't pump it in there. It's just naturally a part of milk.

You really need to sit down with a professional. Your knowledge of diet is profoundly "Southern".

First off, I am a huge peanut fan also, but, I don't get you fukking rebs and your boiled shit. Absolutely fukking ruins them. REAL peanut butter, the kind without added sugar is fukking amazing. Roasted (w/salt) is as well.

As for wheat, not sure wtf you are babbling about with your genetically modified crap. Basically everything we grow is "modified" and it is a good thing. Whole wheat definitely is better as the white shit has all the goodness pulled out of it.

But give it up?

Fukk that. I'll gladly carry a few extra pounds around for the privilege of eating it. Same goes for potatoes. And I could get away with it, were it not for that damn meddling wife that has to keep the cabinets stocked full of snack garbage. I would get along fine without that bullshit. I have no problem walking past it at the grocery store. But when that already open box of cheeze its says "hey fatboy, up here. come get some", I generally do. I'm like a fukking alcoholic that way. Fukkin' bitch. :x

Fortunately I seem to have one of those blood chemistry deals where no matter what I eat, all my numbers are fine. The BP edges up a bit, now and then, but getting on the bike a little more often, knocks it back down. I really pity you fukks out there who are gifted in the art of producing bad cholesterol. You fukks can squeeze more cholesterol out of a celery stick than I can out of a pound of bacon.
