John 8:44
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees, who were the outstanding people of that community and time.
They were the representative people who kept the laws of God the very best.

Yet here was Jesus telling them that their father is the devil.

Speaking to new believers, Paul said this:

Ephesians 2:1-3
And you hath he quickened (made alive), who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath,

When one remains in their state apart from God, they are dragged about by satan -- because yes, they are his child.
It's frightening and people should quickly come to their senses.

This is the heartbreaking result of the Genesis 3 incident, and be clear, it is the state of all humanity.
Romans 3:23 and Romans 5:12.

In this state, the following results.

Idol worship: People place their heart and energy into things other than the God who created them.
Mental issues: Because their object of devotion is wrong, it is the demons playground, and people are oppressed... in varying degrees.
Physical illness: All manner of physical issues arise.
Death: The body ultimately craters totally.
Judgment: All people will stand before God for judgment.
Descendants: The same spiritual problems which plague us are passed to our children.

This is the track man is on.

God promised to break it.
The entire Old Testament is telling of God preparations for the One who would break it-- and how it would occur.
In phenomenal fashion, Jesus fulfilled it all and demonstrated that without a doubt, He is the Christ, the One who takes us off this sad track.

The way, the truth, and the life.

Romans 1:20-22
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools
