To answer your question, the Biden's reported $320K of income in 2007. Likely since it would be made public before the elections Joe made his highest charitable donation that same year of $995. Compare that to his low donation over the 10 year period of $120 in 1999 on reported earnings of $120K.

Remember also that this is not just cash donations but cash and goods.

Compared to the average American who donates to charity, Joe give about two tents of a percent of his income, while the average American donates about 3% of their income to charity. In Joe's income bracket the donations are closer to 5% of income.

So while technically we can't say nothing, it might as well have been nothing.

Yea I messed that comparison up. Should have said two bros with a net worth of 50k each. My bad. Back to Joe, he is an underachiever in the charity dept no doubt but I was mostly commenting on the lie that he gave zero. As for who should know about what, if you are a public official of joes height then it is something that we all should know. The Koch bros can keep them all private or just tell us about some. Up to them but R-pedo's lax attitude it typical of barely functioning drones and should not be something a person of your intellect should aspire to.

Notice where I said most when discussing donations. Our POTUS, VP, Senators, etc should make their tax returns public. I think we agree on this point.

Yes it does sound like we are on about the same page. I don't think bank records should be public nor do I believe private school records should be public. I can see the argument if the person went to a public school but if they paid for their schooling it's their call.

On the school thing why the distinction between public and private schools? I would guess based on your comments that you see public schools as partially tax payer funded. Ok, but then so are private schools. Private schools have huge endowments that are free of some taxes on gains, donations by the public can often be deducted on their individual taxes, programs and departments get Federal grants for all sorts of things, students get grants and aid from both state and Federal funds, etc, etc, etc.

Please explain your position exempting one.

The private school enters into a contract with the student to educate them in exchange for (usually) money. Where the school makes up any deficit it many or may not have doesn't make the contract 's results on the part of the student up for public consumption. It's a small point and I'm not totally opposed to your point of view... But I think mine is righter.

What exactly does this contract look like? I signed one at a private school but that had to do with me agreeing to play football to zero out my bills. I don't remember my wife signing one when she took classes at a private school.

You mean if the student had a direct grant from the national* government? Yea that might open up a student to mandatory reporting if they ran for a top office.
The contract I signed with my, admittedly Podunk, law school was pretty simple. Money for education with lots of legalese about guarantees and indemnifications. Privacy being one of the guarantees on their part.

*unless you meant the federal government which is the state and national government.
