I'm a bit surprised it didn't come in the form of lawsuits against equipment makers such as Riddell. I remember when those stickers showed up on the helmets in high school, the ones that inform you that football can be dangerous. Then I saw them in the NFL too. I guess warning labels don't mean shit.

This will be a class action. The NFL has deep pockets. Much more than the equipment manufacturers.
Warning labels ???

Like waivers , not worth the paper they are printed on for personal injury claims.
Fuck them all.... I don't watch the NFL anyway.

At least the face masks in football curtailed players from biting each other. Unlike some other sport.

Yes and no. Will they keep you from being sued? No, but they do win cases and mitigate damages if properly written.

Don't worry - sooner or later this will happen to the NCAA as well...
They're going to start paying college players, which will destroy the NCAA as far as football is concerned. So, with the NFL circling the drain, what's left of college football can just morph into the new professional league. Only difference is that they'll be able to hire players directly out of HS.

That will work for a bit, but when Oregon bans 3 players for 10 years for pulling a train on some sorority ho at a party, that is going to cause a problem.

I've thought for a long time that the NFL has been paving the way to make it's self a global league.
Or at least a league with Euro and Mexican/S. American teams.
The NFL sees $$$.
The form of football we grew up loving isn't something the Euros and S. Americans can get with.
I mean, they think
soccer is rugged.
So it's got to be Nancied.
The NFL has already made it so that the QB can barely be hit.
And it seems that any time a receiver get blasted, it's a penalty, regardless whether he was given a head shot -- or the defender led with his helmet, or not.
It's just -----> hard hit = penalty.
Kickoff returns will be the next thing to be eliminated.
Not IN.

The NFL will never go global unless they dial back the TV timeouts and make the game have a flow. Say what you want about soccer, but a regular league match starts and finishes in 2 hours with only halftime for commercials. There is constant movement, no pads and a lot more contact than anti-soccer honks are willing to ever admit.

Fucking Americans and their lust to see someone dead, paralysed or humiliated...
Speaks volumes as to the lack of humanity in your culture. You already have your wars. Isn't the "playoffs" of incinerating a village full of brown people sporting enough for you?

The only contact in soccer is a players hands with his own ankle while he is laying on the ground faking agony because a player from the other team came within 2 feet of him
schmick, you make my point for me. And you are retarded. Have your home health aide check the tension on your helmet.

There is a shit ton of contact in soccer, and the injuries are prevalent. You just don't get a great sense of it watching on TV. Much more contact than baseballl, you know since your whole thing is if there aren't violent collisions then it isn't a sport. And really, other than the occasional slide into home plate or second base to break up a double play, there is pretty much zero contact in baseball.

Nailed it. Anybody who has been to a professional game will tell you that shit isn't your 9-11 year old league game.

I didn't appreciate how physical soccer was until about 10 years ago. I was working some high school soccer game in the home of Kzoo Tech, standing on the sidelines. I used to wonder why it was so frowned upon to slide tackle a ball carrier (or whatever they call it).
One guy is running his ass off heading down the sideline. Another guy is running at him at about a 90 degree angle. Opponent hits the turf, leg extended, and goes right into the ball carrier. Of course, ball carrier does an immediate face plant into the turf.
Those dudes are tough.

It isn't. At least, I never did. It was my specialty. I played left fullback/center half for 8 years. My mission was to separate the ball from the dribbler as violently as possible. It's the same principal as a safety in football.

I thought if you hit the ground to challenge an opponent and you didn't commit a proper tackle (i.e. get the ball first) you were either whistled for a foul or a card?

Right. You have to make contact with the ball on a slide tackle to avoid a foul. Depending on who you're attacking, it is sometimes worth it to take yellow card to put his dick in the dirt.

And you rarely get away with a slide tackle from behind. You can tackle from behind from your feet -- often good for a faceplant.
