Boeing, U&L and Alaska PET

So a few weeks ago I flew up to PDX to visit my brother. Turns out he had meetings with Boeing that he couldn't miss so I just went along with him. Turns out he was able to get me a few factory tours and a couple of chats with Boeing pilots while he was in meetings.

I was prevented from taking photos while on most of Boeing's property and of course from inside the Renton and Everett factories, but did get a few shots around them. Didn't see Diego at either of the plants, but saw a bunch of his union buddies. The process is pretty amazing in that Boeing has parts and sub assemblies ready and tagged and they know exactly what time and date they will be installed.

After two days at Boeing we went to Boeing Field and the Museum of Flight. Lots of action as it is right along the runway. Caught this 787-900 doing flight testing.

Lefty in an F-14 cockpit, thankfully the G series is a little larger. When we lowered the canopy it hit my head before it would latch.

I fit a little better in the SR-71 but not much.

Little bro had no issues fitting in the SR-71

Then the little brother returned to PDX and my wife and our best friends arrived for the cruise.

Stopped by Pike's Market to see them throw fish.

Then we were off to Glacier Bay National Park. Rain and cold all day but we stood out on the bow to see the glaciers and whales etc.

Then the boat pointed itself towards Sitka where the wife and I went on a bear watching outing. Had to drive these crappy 4x4s and wear a helmet that was huge.

Then we saw some big wooden poles, some here might find them impressive

I guess the fish weren't biting that day

Then it was off to Victoria BC where we found a few Beavers and a Twin Otter.

It was great hanging out with our friends, but cruising isn't my thing. Glad I did it, but unless we do a Panama Canal trip I don't see us doing another one soon.

After the cruise Rowdy and his wife had to head home but Mrs Lefty and I stayed and did a bunch of hiking on Mt Rainier for three days. I will post a few photos of that later this weekend. Have to go fly now.
