Great bluesman. Saw him a few times, first back in '76 with Edgar. Not a great interviewee, however. Was at Jazzfest a few years ago & attended an interview with him. Poor interviewer kept trying to get him to open up by asking open-ended questions, but Johnny would never give more than a short answer. What was supposed to be a 45-minute session was done after about 20 minutes. Dude looked like he'd died a decade or so ago but someone forgot to tell him.

Saw him on some TV program, must've been 20 years ago. He looked like he was in the last stages of aids even then.
