Since we're on the opening bands theme here, I caught Eric Sardinas opening for Steve Vai last night.

Good show.

Sardinas plays what would probably be best described as an electric blues/southern rock kinda mix. Dude plays a Dobro with a slide.

It might piss off the Southern folk -- one of the brightest up-and-coming southern rock guys is from (if I'm not mistaken) Seattle, now based in LA. Musically, what CAN'T the U&L do better?

Check him out, if you're into the southern stuff.

Commonly referred to as "Budweiser blues". He sounds very talented, but it's a shame that he plays music that rips the soul right out of the legacy of guys like Willie Dixon.

Good point Donovan, but if Willie Dixon were alive and playing the same music today, he'd be playing to 10 drunks in a blues bar somewhere.

Or, he'd have been influenced by modern music, and he'd sound a lot like Sardinas.

One of the things I really enjoyed about his set, was his enthusiasm. As you guys know, showing up because an act wants to, rather than wanting the check, goes a long, long way to making the show better. Between him and Steve Vai, I don't think they wanted to leave. They played over 4 hours between them. I didn't stick around afterwards, but apparently Sardinas came out in the club and personally thanked everyone who was left for coming. One of those guys, like Vai, who would probably show up and play even if he wasn't getting paid(like Everlast, of all people, did here a few years ago at a cancelled show. Dude impressed me that day).
