Best mid-majors so far?

To be honest, I've only seen a few (not that my Saturdays haven't been in front of the TV with suds for the last 3 weeks).
From what I have seen, Nevada looks OK, but I think it's due to Brock Hekking, who is a beast (and his Bosworth-clone act is hilarious).
After Saturday, Wyoming, after poaching Bohl for their coach (3 straight FCS titles ain't messing around), looks pretty decent. Play good D, although the offense is either a big play or a tackle-for-loss.
I guess as an independent, BYU doesn't fit the category.
East Carolina did some damage (hehehe).
NIU?
Anyone?

I'd say the Big 10. They put a scare in the top team from the Pac12 and beat a bottom feeder from the same conference (Rutgers over Wazzou). Ohio State made it a game with VaTech and Michigan has beaten up on the two teams they should while getting spanked by their only real competition.

NIU.
ECU is a decent team who thought would give VT a game but VT screwed the pooch. What happened to the team that was throwing men into the box and playing tight man to man coverage. They came out in a soft zone and ECU just took what they gave them.

Cinder block walls, look pretty tough at mid majors.

Marshall could be this year's UCF, sans the defense. Rakeem Cato is a stud.
I think Cincy could be very good but they've only played one game so far. Wouldn't be surprised if they knock off Ohio St.
ECU.
NIU.
Does BYU count? If so, they get my top vote.
I know they're FCS, but North Dakota State. They have five consecutive wins against FBS schools, with four of those being against Power 5 squads. They could name their score against Cal.

How many MAC teams have beaten B1G teams so far? Seems like a couple every week, and we've got Bowling Green coming to town.

Except their coach, Bohls, bailed for Wyoming (not much of an upward move, but at least it's FBS).

Good choice all and all. The only difference between NDSU and Nebraska is twenty scholarships.

Ouch.

Truth be told the only difference between North Dakota State and more than 70% of the B1G this year are those twenty scholarships over four years. If NDSU just picked up 15 random average D1 players fr depth they would be competitive for second place in either B1G division.

You should probly sub out B1G for the Big 12 since NDSU has beaten the last three schools they've played from your league.

They would be a middle tier team in the Big 12 with those scholarships as well. Texas Tech, Kansas, possibly West Virginia and Texas . . . Iowa State . . . Speaking of Iowa State, remind me who they beat this weekend and where was that game played again?
Sorry, you opened the door. I just walked through.

The Cyhawk Series? Everyone knows you can throw out the record books when those two bitter rivals get together...

Toss me another cliche, Ty Cobb.
Iowa State gave KSTATE fits in Ames. ISU is 1-2 losing to the three time defending FCS national champions (SEC fans should Google it because they aren't from the SWAC) and a ranked opponent.
They're still a bottom feeder but they're OUr bottom feeder and I'm just thankful that they aren't Vandy or another Kansas, or half of the B1G.
Psssssttttt, I just took a swing while agreeing with you.

Yet OU is only an 8.5 point favorite?
:?
WVU has played well thus far, score a lot of points, they will be at home...Holgerson also saw OU some as OC at OSU....and OU lost it's starting RB for a month. i would have guessed the number a little higher but i don't think Vegas was too impressed with decent stretches of play against the Vols. I wasn't. the 2nd quarter was dreadful. special teams mistakes, can't get the plays in on time, crappy on 3rd down both sides of the ball**, blocked FG, too.
OU @ WVU (track meet) and @TCU (against a tougher D) will be two entirely different types of win the Sooners will need if they are a legit contender.
Sooner fan is impulsive and often over-confident as a bettor. lower spread tries to draw out pro-Sooner money, i'm sure.
**i think Mikey Stoops dipped into the old Venables playbook on 3rd and long for Tenn's TD drive. telegraph sending the house nearly every time on 3rd and 11. but i hope he was experimenting some.

Early in the season and OU hasn't played on the road yet.
WVU is at home. Doesn't surprise me.
I agree about TCU, WVU though.

Clint Trickett has looked very good thus far. Plus a night game in Morgantown. That's a sneaky tough match up for OU.

I'm more afraid of a solid defense with an offense that can control the ball than I am a shootout this season. For the first time in years we have a defense for the entire season that makes open field tackles and gets pressure on the QB. I know I am biased but Eric Striker is the biggest defensive play maker in all of college football and he doesn't even have that pretty of stats. He just takes over the entire side of field. I think he may be the best play maker on defense of the entire Stoops era and think about that. Watching that kid play is a fucking privilege I think. It's a different kind of ball game for OU for the first time since 2008 . . . Stoops Troops are back on defense.
No, I'm more scared of a team slowing us down and beating us than I am any shootout this year.
