I'm so sick of my son writing his numbers backwards that when I saw his graded math and he had a backwards three I made him do 10 push-ups. And then he did it three more times on the new homework so he did 30 more total sit-ups. Hardcore :/

Used to do that but its not a 1:1 ratio. 1 pull up is worth 2 push ups and 4 sit ups

That is part of it. However, a coach should also be teaching player the rules of the game and how to best compete within those rules. When the coaches break playing rules or league guidelines they are also teaching their players a lesson. The problem is that lesson is usually a complete 180 from what they "tell" their players. So then the players see the action of the coach and it doesn't match the words of the coach.

It has been my experience in officiating all levels of football short of Power 5 conferences and the NFL, that the more coaches are willing to bend or break the rules the less coaching ability they have. For example, a coach that teaches their OL to hold does so because he can't teach his OL to move their feet and trade a half yard for more leverage. Or a coach that has the WR cut the FS on a running play to the opposite side of the field, does so because he can't teach or convince his WR to approach each play with the same energy and hopefully lull the FS to sleep or to tire him out. Or a coach that has to stack his youth team with players from a different more competitive league does so because his coaching skills aren't up to taking average players and making them a team and winning as a team.
