I love a good laptop. I have had my Sony VAIO for 7 years and the thing up and died on me. It's been a dang rough week without her! I am thinking of getting a macbook air or another VAIO. What is the difference? I like to watch TV and movies on my laptop. Any computer people please help me decide. Oh, I need a pretty white laptop, not a black one.

Moving Fail can hook you up with just about anything black.

One is a piece of shit made by a company famous for making nothing but shit, the other makes a decent laptop.

Lenovo.
Especially the T-series. They are a serious, tough laptop.
Lenovo bought out IBM.

FTFY.
Been installing a bunch of
IBM Dirty Fucking Slants Lenovo AIO's (All-In-Ones) of late (getting away from 2-In-Ones). Computers are getting goofy
After having this VAIO I'm posting from (it was free, which was a decent deal), I can't go back from a 17 widescreen.
HP makes a really nice lappy, too.
Try and negotiate a Win7 downgrade, if you can. Win8/8.1 sucks fat balls.

Hint: Sony doesn't make garbage, normally.
Another company in the discussion buys outdated shit, then charges 3 times as much for it. And now that company has security issues that they've been immune to for the last 20 years, and they're unprepared for the onslaught.
But a Mac looks good on you.

You have a VAIO? Goodness we have something in common. Yes I want to keep win 7 if possible. And I don't need or want a touchscreen.
Could you be any more vague? Edit

Actually, Lenovo made IBM's laptops when they still had the IBM labels on them. I've only owned IBM and now Lenovo laptops because they are built tough.

Don't be so hard on Sony. Their TVs and stereos are decent and the Playstation is a far superior console to the Xbox in every generation.
But yeah, if you're looking for a laptop, there are MacBooks and then there are a bunch of other worthless pieces of shit that run Windows.

Miketheangrydrunken, you have a point. Dins is not the Mensa he thinks he is regarding anything especially computers. Nothing wrong with macbooks. They are popular for good reason.

Well, he says he is, so you should just take his word for it.
I've noticed he didn't reply to my statement to who has been making the former IBM laptops for many years before they stuck the Lenovo brand on them.

Yeah, because I don't install/configure them for a living or anything like that, and I haven't handled them by the thousands. And I certainly haven't dealt with more of them in the last month than the majority will lay eyes on in a lifetime.
Screw_Michigan wrote:trev wrote:Nothing wrong with macbooks. They are popular for good reason.

Any time someone posts something that leads to Screw being half-right, it means they probably were unsmart.
You folks realize that Mac is now Intel-based, and they buy up the shit that was outdated for PCs a couple of years ago, right?
Apple was once a fine piece of hardware, using the greatness of Motorola processors. Now, they buy up the cheapest shit they can get their hands on, and put their super-fast, horribly-unsecure operating system on it, charge triple what an equivalent PC goes for, and laugh at the hipster-douches that think Apple is anything but junk.
But hey, if you want to sit in a Starbucks and "work on the book you're writing" (for the last 8 years, while working at the Starbucks down the road), a Mac is a must-have.
But in the hi-tech industry, Apple fans are known as "laughingstocks."
Still a great platform for video editing, although the gap is shrinking.
And in case you're wondering, this secondhand (I've never bought a computer in my life, because us tech folk always fall into them) VIAO I'm posting from couldn't be a better machine. No complaints at all.

Dins, Who knew you were a computer tech guy in addition to a dry wall guy, a

a plumber, a

a contractor, a

a salesman, a

a fisherman, a

, a jerk off and whatever else? The list is endless.

I still occasionally do some drywall repairs, mostly when a computer install goes sideways.
a plumber
Never in my life, and I don't really know much beyond the basics.
a contractor
Pretty vague term. I haven't had a valid Oregon CCB(home/commercial improvement, more or less) license in a few years. I'm currently a tech contractor.
a salesman
Haven't sold much of anything beyond services in many years.
a fisherman
And a damn fine one at that. Going to rain for the first time in forever starting tomorrow, and the salmon runs are off the charts this year, so some salmonids are going to meet their executioner this week.
a jerk off
I've actually had a staff to handle that lately. But I only got with 2 skanks this weekend (but laid some groundwork with some h-h-h-h-hotties, we'll see how that works out... probably swing-and-miss), as per usualm).
and whatever else?
You left out "winemaker," which I just got done with the backyard vineyard, which won't yield much (I'll be inoculating it in a couplefew hours), after spending Friday helping my buddy press 28,000 pounds of pinot gris and get it in tank.
Sounds like
someone is jealous of those that haven't led such sheltered lives, and actually
done stuff.

I suppose if I had a still I could. About the nastiest liquor there is -- ferment sugar cane in water, and distill it.

Now I feel like a loser for liking rum. I really only like one kind anyway. I will try and develop a palette for wine. Although for some reason wine gives me an instant headache upon first sip. I would not turn down a dinsdale estate wine though. Do you make sweet wine?

I am in quite a dilemma over this. Sony no longer makes vaio. I been all over town looking for something I like as much as the VAIO. The only one I like is the macbook. I have thought about getting a chromebook for the time being until I find what I want. Most of those seem like junk though. Please chime in here if you have a Mac and love it.
