The committee absolutely fucked themselves with putting TCU at #3 leading up to this weekend. Florida State, Baylor and Ohio State each posted top 15 wins and TCU murdered a team winless in conference that proved nothing. You don't do these silly polls every week and just do one ranking when the dust settles...we don't need to know how the donuts are made from week-to-week. The hoops tourney committee meets one time to pick the field...let the nerds like Lunardi figure out the field during the season.

The four teams I'd have in are Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Ohio State. All four are outright conference champs. Florida State is one of the ugliest power 5 unbeatens in recent memory but they are unbeaten. Last time I checked, wins are still better than losses. Ohio State had a bad loss at home early in the season but emphasis on early.

You just can't tell me TCU should go over Baylor when Baylor has beaten them. I think you just have to leave those two out because of that. They cancel each other out. In an 8-team field...you absolutely include both. I'd probably go with Mississippi State and Michigan State to round out the 8.

FSU
Bama
Oregon
Baylor

Anything other than that is the committee playing to TV.

Why would you have Baylor jump tOSU based on this weekend's games?

I don't remember ever publishing my thoughts or rankings on the subject.

That said I don't think TCU should have been above Baylor since mid Oct when Baylor beat them straight up.

tOSU's loss was far worse than the other contenders losses, IMO. B1G and Big XII are pretty even to my eyes, but Baylor would get my vote.

But what order they go in, I don't know. Even though I think both Oregon and Bama (and maybe the others) would beat them, I think you have to put FSU as #1.

A case is hereby made for a 8 team playoff.
I don't think we need an 8 team playoff at all. Does Miss State really belong? Michigan State?

I will go along with a 6 team playoff if it includes the P5 conference champs and one at large. No special ND treatment and no special non-P5 treatment as well. If ND is ranked in the top 6 great they can be included, same for non P5 teams. The top two seeds get a first round bye.

Do we really need to see Bama vs Miss State and Oregon vs Michigan State in round of 8 games?

I think 6 works.

I want the regular season to mean something. You are correct in that both of the MSU's could beat someone in the playoff. They just don't deserve a spot with their two losses. My opinion.

Agree that it is still a beauty contest as we saw today when the committee moved TCU down 3 spots. The head of the committee said as much in his ESPN comments.

Fuck that committee.
You are absolutely correct. If either Texas or OU would have won 11, they would have been in...

BECAUSE THEY FREAKING PLAYED SOMEBODY.

JSC and Willie,

16 games played by the 2 teams playing for the NC? Under an 8 team format? Damn, that's a ton of games for young men playing for free. Chance of injury to seniors, etc. makes it prohibitive to me.

I've been wrong before, but damn, a lot of games for 18 to 22 year olds (on average).

:meds: Meanwhile Baylor had a win over one of the other two schools in contention. So we are going to completely overlook that?

Cut the regular season back to 11 games.

11+first round+semi+NC=14 games. If the team needs to play a CCG then it's 15.

How many games will FSU play this year if they win it all?

About 9 games, and half of 6 others.
