Just kidding. MrsO too uneasy with guns. I have two 12 gauge shotguns and a .22 rifle in my den closet. If the shit hits the fan, I'll be packing.

Added later:

Something tells me most intruders would shit their pants looking down the business end of something like this. And you don't need to be Annie Oakley or spend a lot of time target shooting to get the job done.

My wife has the Sig P239 .40S&W and it is in her purse damn near all the time.

Image

The best choice though is one your girlfriend is most comfortable with. Have her shoot a bunch of different models. She will tell you which one is best for her. If she plans to carry it in in purse though set her up on a regular cleaning schedule, especially if she chooses a semi auto.

With a female the first thing grabbed at by a bad guy would be the purse so I'd suggest a CC weapon. This 25 cal semi auto 9 shot Browning is small but very deadly in a close range encounter

You're trolling, right? .25 ACP hits no harder than a .22LR.

For recommendations, I have to go with what my friends ladies like -- a Colt, or Lady S&W. You want the fusker to work perfectly, right?

Colts cost more than other pistols... for a reason.

In compacts, the .380 is popular (although not very powerful, but just fine for close range, where it's needed).

A buddy of mine (male) loves his Keltec. About the smallest 9mm pistol out there, and they are of good quality. Definitely worth checking out.

Then again, loves me some Walther (which I may or may not have). The classic PP or PPK/PPKS is great, and the Little Lady might just like busting out "My name is Bond... James Bond" at the range. Drop the thing in a mudpuddle and it will still work fine.

No, just talking close combat. Granted that 10 yds away might feel like a bee sting but 3 or 4 rounds in your face from a few feet away might hurt.

a Roger LCR 38 Special.
Well, yes I do have a pistol in my pocket. hehehehehehe

I just have .22 long rifle, and I have hit a rabbit in the head at 50 yards with it. And a S&W 16 gauge. Only have single aught buck shot to the tune of 50 rounds. 12 pellets per round. Basically, old fashioned grape shot from cannons. Nasty.

And trust me, you do NOT want to be hit by a .22! Most feared weapon in all of law enforcement. The slugs bounce around inside of ya.

And if you can afford it, a Walther PPK .38. Excellent small weapon for women. And James Bond.

You are scared because you have never picked one up. If you learned about them and fired a few shots you wouldn't be scared.

It is the unknown you are scared of not the guns themselves.

Why am I not surprised that you would pimp "scared little people" then.

Your heros that you continue to spam the board with are "scared little people."

Beast mode, DeSean Jackson, etc, etc.

Mix in a little outdoors network and you will see some of them discussing their own guns. For others you only need read the police reports to see they carry.

Do any of you have experience with Taurus? A friend has one and I've shot it, he likes it and I do too, although for concealed carry it seems a bit much. I have a S&W 38 but was looking to go up some. I want to stay with revolvers, I just don't trust semis although I realize many/most people prefer them.
Either of the 45/410 combos would work if you are standing off grizzly in Alaska or gorillas in Ferguson MO. Not very concealable and not practical for very day carry.

You need to decide what caliber she should carry. Forget purse carry. If you cannot carry it on your person, it is useless, and when the thug jacks the purse, puts your gun in criminals hands. In our family wife carries a Tarcus TCP .380. An OK gun low end price point, has over 200 rounds with only one jam. Ruger LCPs are in the same class and OK as well. In .380 I would get the S&W Bodyguard .380 with the laser. Two of my daughter in laws carry these. Daughter carries a KelTech 9mm,she likes the larger gun and can conceal it quite well. The Ruger LC9 is a good gun as well. Ruger also puts teh .380 in the LC9 now. The larger frame soaks up more of the kick from the .380 round than it does in the compact.

Image

I carry the Ruger LC9.

Image

The Sig .380 is a very nice gun. Going to be at least $ 250 more than the other compact .380s, but well worth it.

Image

Stepping up in the quality section would be moving up to a Kahr, Sig Sauer, or Beretta. I would not mind a Beretta 9mm at all. My boys disliked them as the Marine Corps issue sidearm, but under civilian use they should perform quite well. Don't worry about the .380 hitting power. Load it up with Hornady Critical Defense bullets and you can belly shoot some prick and put a hole the size of a coffee cup in them.

Image

What ever you decide for her to carry, get some additional training in self defense tactics, situational awareness, threat analysis and reaction. Just because you have a gun and can put some rounds on the target, does mean you have the brain power to stay out of trouble.

For not trusting semis, really is not a point. I prefer them over a revolver because they are tactically much more effective, especially in a multiple round exchange. I do something a lot of people do not consider and I carry 2 extra magazines on me. That gives me a total of 27 rounds versus 5 or 6 and the ability to reload and get back in it versus the cumbersome process of reloading a revolver. A good tap rack bang drill helps you have instant reaction to a jam. Buy good ammo not that cheap Chinese or Russian shit.

Now for Barflies .25 throw down special..where the fuck did you get that ?? Give it back to the cop to use as a throw down...

five of these six men are carrying weapons, they are neither small nor scared......look I know there isn't much danger lurking at renfaires and such, but there are lots of bad people out there and lots of people carry guns simply for protection, not because they're scared......

the springfield XD line are pretty sweet small carry's....if price is no object, the Sig P938 is probably the best bang for the buck

Yes, a real woman asks for a weapon, so I bought her a T45410. I'm kind of envious because it's nicer then my Colt. But it accessorizes her nail color. The only request I made is that she never points it at me.

If your Colt is a revolver, then there's something seriously wrong with it if it's not superior in every way to a Taurus.

There's a reason Colt revolvers cost a grand.
