Don't recall mentioning the 'shortest amount of daylight' in my post. Of course, that's what the solstice is. Idiot. Yes, you could argue that my first sentence of the two could contradict the second, but the fact remains and the point of my post was that the sun now sets later each day.

Rather, the total duration of daylight. Which, for another week, grows shorter.
