Any of y'all ever done a 10/22 Ruger build?

I had no idea they were the Jeep Wrangler of guns. All kinds of mods out there available for the rimfire rifle. I started buying all the parts for the gun after I heard how much fun they are to shoot as a little plinkster. Much easier to shoot than my Savage .243 or Weatherby 7mm and better on the pocket book as far as ammo goes.

This is what it looks like now...

Image

This is what it will sort of look like when I'm done...

Image

The stock will be same design but more of a pepper/gray color. It will have the same bull barrel and Mueller scope. I'm still deciding on an after market trigger, but when I'm done, this sucker will shoot the hanging jizz off Screwy's mop from 150 yards. Lots of cool shit and info out there about the 10/22. I find it to be a decent hobby to get into as I get older.

A 4+ hour round of golf just isn't cutting it anymore.

Never built one, shot a grip of them.

A friend has a carbon-fiber bull barrel (obviously has a steel sleeve, but I didn't know they made them for the 10/22), composite stock, and light-gathering scope.

Wayyyyy cool.

Yeah, I looked at the carbon barrel. It's around $300. Too rich for my blood, but they look awesome as shit.

He shoots these things called... I forget what they're called. "Gunpowder free" subsonic things. Cool as heck for, uhm... neighborhood use. Don't hit very hard (obviously), but get enough FPS to whack shit.

I suppose it would make a potential burglar go back outside and have to regroup before entering the house again.

What does it matter how much it cost?

Anyways, Roach. I like those .22LR ARs, but my first AR is going to be an AR-10 in .308 made by Armalite. And then I'll probably build a .223/5.56 at some point.

Your Glocks are sweet. I've always wanted one, but haven't put handguns near the top of my want list for quite some time. Anyways, here is my collection...

Mossberg 500 Persuader (photos aren't of my guns...plucked off Google Images)

Image

Weatherby SA-08 20ga

Image

Remington 870 Express SuperMag

Image

Weatherby Vangaurd S2 7mm w/ a Nikon Monarch Scope

Image

Savage Trophy Hunter 11/111 .243 w/ Nikon BDC Prostaff Scope

Image

And the handguns..

.38 S&W Airweight, Taurus G2 247 9mm, Ruger LC9 9mm, and a Springfield XD 45 ACP 4"

Never done a 10/22 build, I have a Remington 597 with 4 x 9 scope and some 30 shot mags for it.

Image

Doing a little photo shoot before my sons wedding last summer.

Image

Don't hunt birds much anymore, so I converted my Mossberg 500 over to something like this.

Image

On my side every day

Image

Slip this in a pocket holster in my back pocket in case somebody asks for my wallet.

Image

Pretty much the way mine is set up, I did mount a LED light on the side quad rail.

Image

Going old school..mine has the Hogue grips on it. Kid shot competition with it for a couple years.

I've got Mepro sights on my G19 and I'm very happy with them. Good illum with the 3 dot system and a gunsmith will do it for $20 or less.
I plan on getting a Benelli Ethos or M2 for home defense/hunting.

Smart enough to be able to count to four, which is a fuck of a lot more than you can do.

I was wonder what the appeal is for posing with assault rifles before a wedding?

Not casting any judgement.......I just don't fucking get it.

Of course you don't get it, it is a guy thing.

Just how our family rolls.

You'd better buy ammo because the ATF has been told by the DoJ to study the possibility of declaring .223/5.56 mm ammo armor piercing. Of course, if this is allowed to stand, 22LR could just as easily be outlawed as AP since there is no definition of what constitutes "armor. " It's just another attempt by the gun grabbing liberals to destroy the American way of life and use the Constitution to wipe their ass.

I'm a guy. I have guys in my family. They do guy things like work blue collar jobs. Hunt and fish even. Hell, most of them look for the (R) before they cast a vote. We don't even have any open queers in the family (we all suspect my alcoholic cousin is in the closet)

Not once have a group of gun owners in my family (my father and I the only exceptions) got together to pose with there guns at any activity other than hunting.

So once again...what's the appeal? If I was cool with non-answers, I would be in my company's corporate office.

I do not know if there is any appeal. Firearms and shooting are a big part of our lives. It is something we enjoy doing, we have family competitions, the boys friends are into it as well. Three of those guys went to Iraq and Afghanistan and came back physically intact, with some mental scars but all in all pretty good shape. Having the 5 of us in one spot for one of their weddings, 3 years after I beat the Reaper in my illness, and they all came back from combat tours was a celebration for us. There are other pictures where another 4 members of the wedding party also have AR's and a couple antique rifles, another parent whose picture I will not post because he is a Federal agent, and all. None of them found this to be unusual. When those pictures were being taken there was probably at least 35 more people there behind the camera, family members friends, wives, girlfriends, grand kids. There were easily 200 photos taken with over 30 people involved in them.

Christmas Day at our place involves shooting, pretty much any family gathering, there is going to be some shooting. We reload, we check out new weapons, two of their friends have custom gun business's. Being able to take care of ourselves and our families,a nd not being the victim of crime or thugs is pretty high on our list as well.

2 days before the wedding my son said we are all going to bring our AR's, and some antique guns as well and pose with the old Dodge car. This just seemed perfectly normal for us. Being with my kids and their friends and our families doing things we enjoy doing is the appeal I guess.

You actually shoot that thing ?? My nephew brought one of those over last year, I put two rounds through it and felt like my wrist had been pounded sideways. Worst firing gun I ever shot. I will stay with my full stock.

I guess all that crap about Obama supposedly not being the crazy, wild eyed Commie the media and centrist progressives said he wasn't has been proven true once and for all-- not that the intelligent among us didn't know that six years ago. This next year and a half can't go by fast enough.

Not exactly what you think it means. I thought Moving Fail was going to derail another thread with his stupid ankle biting antics. I was referring to Roach's collection. If he spent $10,000 on his gun collection, that's his business. Doesn't matter what it cost for it all if that is his thing.

Yeah, I thought it was cool at the time of purchase for home defense, but would rather have full stock after putting some rounds through it. It's strictly for a would be intruder.

Years ago, a friend had a shotgun similar to that. I seem to remember it even had an illegally-short barrel. And I think it did 3.5". Took a friend out who had never shot a shotgun... so naturally, the owner loaded up some 3.5" magnums with big shot.

Hilarity ensued.

Good observation..that is a full on suppressor. Completely legal with the stamp and permits. He used one set up that way in Iraq, and pretty wanted copies of that and a couple others when he got home. The Barrett was pretty impractical to own so he sold it.

Not even as loud as a .22 rifle with that suppressor on it.

Second from has right has a pretty good flash suppressor on it. Suppress's the flash alright, but throws every bit of the discharge noise to each side, real fucking loud.

My nephew must have had a couple of bong hits before he bought it. He thought his 100 pound wringing wet wife would like it for a "home defense" gun. She shot it once and then just ripped his ass a new one for spending money on the thing. She had a bandaged wrist for two weeks.

While over there we had the opportunity to utilize the SF's multi-use range thanks to the connections of our former SEAL weaponeer/armorer. One of the SF guys had a 7.62 sound suppressed rifle that when shot would make as much noise as if you plinked your fingernail against an unopened Coke can. It had that same tone and sound as well. The suppressor added about another foot and a half to the length of the rifle and was only good for 500 rounds before they replaced it. Very impressive.

Side story: That day they were training up and down the line next to us civilian doofusses. As a former Army guy I was astonished to see these guys working in two man teams, one shooting and the other leaning against the target's frame covering the bullet holes with pasties while smoking and joking. If that wasn't eye opening enough, this was occurring in the very next lane over-- right next to our guys, most of whom couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if they were at point blank range. The funny thing was the vast majority of our shooters (pilots, mechanics, crew members) had been bragging on the way over there about their so-called expertise from hunting, range work, etc. Our weaponeer was out there all day trying to get these hapless gun bunnies qualified that day. His neck must have stiff from all the disgusted head shaking he did.

The version of the Mossberg 500 that I have has the full stock. It came with a hunting barrel and a short barrel. I saw the after market pistol grip and hand grip in the store for $25. Didn't seem like a good idea due to my intent is for using .00 Buck for home defense. I have a box of Sabot slugs, but that would be silly to use for my purposes.

I did attach the LED/laser light on it and have it set to the "strobe" option to confuse would-be intruders. No sense setting the LED to flashlight with or without the laser option.

I'm considering buying either the 9mm compacts of the Springfield XD and S&W M&P for CCL.

I think it is Viridian Lasers that has a shotgun specific taclight/laser combo that shows the shooter the shot spread on a tactical choked shotty for aiming purposes. It's pretty trick.

Finished with build today.

I need higher rings as the 1" Weavers make it a little tight around the bull barrel.
