As for why the black-clad guys are indeed a full head taller than their orange-clad victims, that really is a bit odd. Suggesting...they're all imports from some other region? Or that as with cops and prison guards, taller guys were preferred for this mission? The Coptic Christian church for some reason attracts short men? They were marching them parallel to the water about 6' away or so. Last I checked, sea level is sea level.

I didn't ever really check though. Is "sea level" in Cali higher or lower than at The Med?

Let's not get overly confused here. Look at the photo. The victims are all walking along the shore--which gently slopes down to the water. Notice that the victims are all next to the water, thus several inches lower than their captors. It creates an easy illusion on the whole picture of the victims being shorter than they are. Just a bit but it adds to the effect.

As for the post-1948 appearance of Islamic fundamentalists, I'm speaking of the last few hundred years, not the initial spread. As for Turkey's genocidal attack on the Christian Armenians, this was an act of barbarous nationalism, even though the religious pretext was used.
