I have to agree. Quantity over quality. I haven't been to Summerfest in years. I remember going for blues night in the early 70's. Luther Allison, Butterfield Bues Band, Muddy Waters and B. B. King. Henry Jordan ruined Summerfest.

The festival is in Wisconsin -- you obviously need to see a travel agent.

But if I had to pick anyone... it's slim picken's.

Looking over the list, the ones that probably wouldn't give me a rash:

Kings Of Leon (and that a question mark on the rash)

Buddy Guy (usually don't go for the geriatrics, but he still gets it done)

Walk The Moon

Blind Boys Of Alabama (they're still alive?)

Weird Al

Dark Star Orchestra

Saw them about 10 years ago, and there was some bad health going on then.

Buddy Guy is coming to the Waterfront this summer.

Buddy Guy
Zac Brown
Punch Brothers
Tommy Castro
Gary Clark Jr.
Elvin Bishop
Dark Star Orchestra (if you're a Dead fan). They're playing in Paso Robles in April but I passed in favor of Steely Dan and Tedeschi Trucks.

Not necessarily in that order.

Good choices, I'd probably have Gary Clark Jr &r Kenny Wayne Shepard at the top, followed closely by Buddy Guy, then Elvin Bishop, Tommy Castro, Trombone Shorty, Isley Brothers, etc.

Yep, KWS and Trombone Shorty would be good too.

Isley Bros - maybe. Apparently there are only two of them left and I'm not sure how well they're functioning at this point.

I'm agreeing with the group here, not a lot of quality to pick from. I guess if it came down to it, and in no order:

Zac Brown Band..meh.
Linkin Park..not bad, not great.
Doobie Bros...great band, but age has to be catching up.
Weird Al...?
Foghat...see Doobies.
Buddy Guy...ditto.

Toad the Wet Sprocket is a decent band, but kind of boring.

Third Eye Blind...way too much M2 spooge floating around. Not in.

Depends on how much of an effort is involved.

Well there isn't really any music people will drive half way across the country for, even so, a lot of the responses here resemble what I'd expect to hear from my 80 year old parents and their friends at Leisure World. Good thing Mikey, SS, & PW are here, otherwise this place wouldn't be much different than a typical geriatric center. Checkers? Bingo anyone? Nah just another night of popcorn and a snooze in front the TV.

At this point most, if not all of us can claim the issue is low T. LMAO.

Assuming that T = talent, yes.

I had that same attitude when a friend wanted to go see Willy Nelson. I wasn't interested in listening to a country bumpkin, but ended up going, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

I wouldn't travel cross country for a show like the one being mentioned, but if I lived near it I'd definitely check out some of the bands.

Papa Willie wrote:Actually - the Doobie Brothers are still absolutely fucking awesome.
That's good to know, I haven't seen them in a long time. So long as Tom Johnston leading the group, it's all good.
Foghat only has the drummer as an original now, but the band is actually awesome. Singer can pull off Lonesome Dave as good as anybody, and the guitar work is great.

Of that list -
Zac Brown
The Flaming Lips (they do some somewhat funny things live)
Buddy Guy
Doobies
Foghat
Kansas (new singer kills. A good friend of mine is their road mgr..)
Isley Bros.
Sammy Hagar (why not)
Gary Clark Jr.
Paris Hilton? The Person?
Leftover Salmon
Elvin Bishop

That's a decent group right there. A lot of shit on that list as well. I'd go if all of ^^^ were playing back to back, but don't know if wading through all the other shit would be worth it.
Of that group, I missed Kansas. Seen them before and it was always a good show. Sammy Hagar...okay I guess, he's at least energetic. Paris Hilton huh. Only if she's showing the one good video.

Huh?

Did any of those guys, or you, list any act whose members are under 60 years old?

YHKYOA

I hate to IKYABWAI, but YHKYOA here.

These are all under 60, BTW.

Zac Brown
Punch Brothers
Gary Clark, Jr.
Tommy Castro
Pretty sure most of DSO is under 60

OK Tommy Castro is 59 years 345 days, but still under 60.

That makes five out of the seven I listed, not including Kenny Wayne Shepherd, who's under 40, and Trombone Shorty (30 years old).

What, are you drunk in the morning, Dins?

Flaming Lips (awesome live band)
Jane's Addiction (this would be a can't miss in 1990, but they should still be okay)
Coheed & Cambria (unless you hate prog rock, in which case, avoid)
Public Enemy (see comment for Jane's Addiction)
Weird Al (duh)

That's about all I can come up with from that lineup...

Saw them maybe 3 years ago. Walked out during about the third song... possibly the worst show I've ever seen(including local taverns). Too bad, since I'm a fan. I want a refund (OK, I didn't pay, except with Little Dins... and I still want a refund).

I saw Jane's on the same tour Dins. Did they over amplify the fuck out of everything at your show too? Being in the balcony made the sound tolerable for me. If I had been on the floor up close I might have fled.

Going to see Steely Dan up in Moving Fail's neighborhood in a couple of weeks.

They have a new amphitheater at a winery up there that's supposed to be pretty nice.

http://www.vinaroblesamphitheatre.com/concerts

It's about a 5 hour drive from here so we're going to go up there and stay a few days, and do the winery visit thing.

Plus the Steely Dan tickets there were less than half of what I would have had to pay in San Diego at Humphrey's.
