This is some bullshit

Yuengling with its more than 2.7 million barrels was previously not considered "craft" by the Brewers Association because of its use of adjuncts like corn and rice in the brewing process.

In early 2014, the Brewers Association said it would change its definition and remove that restriction, paving the way for brewers like Yuengling, August Schell Brewing, Minhas Craft Brewery and others to now fall under the craft banner.
Somebody got paid.

What? That bastion of transparency and honesty, the Brewer's Association? Kinda like the folks in DC.

I almost posted something on this the other day. Youngalingus a "craft "beer"? You've got to be kidding me.

Then I thought - who cares?

Not sure why, but, I find that yuengling on tap tastes awesome. Not in any sort of complicated artsy fartsy, hopped up craft beer way. It just plain tastes good. In a bottle, it is just OK.

Anyone else have it on tap?

It's very prevalent here. I like it on tap, and in general, but I can't drink it all night because it gives me a terrible hangover.

I never understood the "fill in the blank gives me a headache" thing. Alcohol is alcohol. Headaches are a result of being dehydrated. Not sure how a particular beer/hard licker does it.

This. Same for people that say, I can't drink _________, it makes me sick.

Wrong, you got fall down drunk one night and have bad memories of all the vomiting you did. It has zero to do with the type of alcohol you were drinking.

Just personal experience, numbnuts. Ingredients might not be the sole reason, just a contributing one.

Uhm...

Go out and suck down some fusel alcohols, or some acetaldehyde, or any of the ketones, then tell me how that works out for you. Whole shitload of biochemistry says you're an idiot.

Gee, a producer that's so cheap they use corn and rice, makes a beer that produces nasty hangovers? Color me surprised.

Exactly. It's a lot of the other shit, besides alcohol, that makes your headache or hangover worse. Add sugar to your list. You'll get a lot worse hangover from drinking sweet carbonated cocktails than the equivalent amount of alcohol in a single malt straight up or with ice.

Exactly. Yuengling has a sweet taste, sweeter than other lagers. Left Shitter can stick to drinking his Diogenes specials.

When I need advice on flying a jetliner, I'll ask you.

If I want advice on biology, I'll laugh if your name comes up.

But I'll remember that the next time I'm slamming beers with someone with celiac disease. I'll share a laugh with them, along with anyone who has had anaphylaxis from drinking.

Yep, all alcoholic beverages are the exact same -- you guys are reallyreally smart and stuff.

Anyone who knows they have celiac disease and is slamming beers has issues. Same with anyone who drinks again after anaphylaxis.

So we agree that your previous post was incorrect. I'm sure you don't realize the multiple levels on which it was incorrect, though.

Your original post has a modicum of truth, in a "whisky before beer way." But certain people have reactions to different alcoholic beverages, due to the chemical makeup... not even up for debate, unless you want to sounds silly.

Adjuncts require more drinks to get drunk too since the ABV is often half that of a decent beer. So War Wagon is swilling more sugars per beer and is drinking more overall beer to do the job.

OTOH, I can get a six pack of good 7% beer and it lasts 2 days of drinking before it's done. And never a hangover. It really isn't rocket science.

thanks for the education, ya bunch of alkies.

I was going off my own experience and having read a few thousand times that dehydration was the cause.

Fortunately, my digestive system has prevented me from every really having a true hangover headache. I apparently have a bouncer in my stomach who says, "OK, everybody out, the same way you came in" whenever I attempt to get extremely drunk. Pretty sure this trait has saved me from trouble a few times over the years. And that bouncer isn't the least bit prejudiced. He will run kettle one as well as cheap tequila.

One other thing I have learned is that lots of cold fresh water is really nice to have on hand to cool that bouncer off after he is done running everybody and he's pissed and starts pounding the wall. Dry heaves are really not much fun and totally preventable.

Which is from Montana. It's....not terrible.

You really missed the boat, though. Odell Brewing Co. out of Ft. Collins is outstanding. I'm pretty sure IKYABWAI City is in their distribution range. Keep an eye out for them. Should you happen to get your hands on this

I stick with an excellent local brewery, Alesmith most of the time.

Recommend their ESB and IPA if you have a taste for those. There's is more like a Double IPA and tastes similar to Pliny the Elder which is difficult to get in So Cal, let alone the rest of the country.

The watering down of specifications or definitions for quality unfortunately have been happening for awhile. Encompassing beer to motor oil.

My grandparents drank CC. It was for the afternoon "highball". You could set your watch by that. 4:30 every afternoon. They also kept a few cans of black label beer in the fridge which oddly enough was drank with dinner when they had spaghetti. They must have read somewhere that spaghetti was to be washed down with lousy "canadian style" beer. Never saw either drink beer for any other occasion. Well, I did have a few with gramps when I was old enough to buy decent beer.

Drinking with old dudes in their mid 80s is actually kinda fun if said old dude was as cool as my gramps. He had some pretty funny prohibition era stories. He had a chemist room mate who apparently made the best and most trusted bath tub gin in Northern NJ.

As did everyones. Mine gave you CC if they didn't like you, Crown if they did. The new CC Rye is the business, they're targetting 20-30 somethings that like to drink but haven't got any money so it's priced right. Tasteful rye whisky, not the wanky 'taistesmoraig' connoisseur culture horsecrap.
