Worst by far is Washington DC. It's so bad when I used to fly in Dulles, I'd rent a car then drive it to the train station 8 miles away (was cheaper than cab)
Not sure how NYC and Boston didn't make the list either

I'd rank em like this - worst first

DC
NYC
LA
SF
Boston
Chicago
Atlanta
Houston
Minneapolis
Seattle
You might try flying into BWI & hopping onto the train at the next door station down to DC. Years ago it was cheaper to do that, although I don't know if that's the case anymore.

Seattle is about to jump to #2 if not higher soon. Expedia is moving their HQ from Bellevue to downtown Seattle soon, making its 5,000 employees jump into an already bad commute.

Not to mention that with the cost of housing around here most of those who make minimum wage or close to it couldn't afford to park downtown everyday, much less afford a car.

I don't know about the cheaper thing, but I do know it used to save a crap ton of time. Used to "race" another pilot from our offices off of 128 and I-95 in a Boston Suburb to the hotel in DC. He would drive into Logan and use the Delta Shuttle to National and then the blue line to the hotel. I would drive to Providence, fly Southwest to Baltimore, train to DC and walk or cab to hotel. I usually won about 3/4 times due to Boston traffic.

And now with a train station at TF Green airport in Providence I think I would win damn near every time.

I think the worst traffic is LA.

Then it is NYC suburbs
DC,
Boston,
SF
Metro NYC
Chicago

Hey, Rocket Surgeons -- the article isn't about the "cities with the worst traffic." It's about the differential between rush hour and off-peak traffic.

Anyone else ever been in lower Manhattan NYC during gridlock? I rest my case.

The thing about lower Manhattan is gridlock is completely avoidable. Jump on the subway and get around it all.

Further there are very few reasons to drive ones own car into Manhattan what with all the trains and subways.

I've only experience with a few of these. My take.

Boston- An absolute motherfukking cluster fukk. Downtown was laid out sometime in the 1600s and as a result it is a freaking mess. And then there is the subterranean mess. Absolutely horrible. Boston is really not that big. It should not be that fukked up.

NYC- 1000X bigger than Beantown, but since it wasn't laid out by someone on LSD, it is manageable. There certainly is the gridlock problem, but you can't avoid some problems due to the sheer number of people there. I will take it any day over Boston. Fukk that place.

DC- Another fuggen mess. Not as fukked as Boston, but close.

SF- Kinda fukked up like Boston. I guess it's what happens when you build a city out on the end of a peninsula that is also a mountain range.

I usually drive into SF and LA when everyone is leaving so I can usually keep out of most of it, but the other side of the fwy is often littered with traffic jams. How do people live like that?

DC is the worst traffic I've yet seen. I-95 traffic outside NYC is epic. Boston may be bad, but in NYC you can get in a traffic jam at midnight. ATL is another place that is mental 24-7. ATL is as close to urban NASCAR as we have in America. Some of those drivers should have sponsors.

128 around Boston is another NASCAR spot. Offense only.

Your friend either had a piece of ass at Logan or he is weapons grade stupid. I have to work at BOS fairly regularly and PVD at least a few days a week. PVD is always very easy to get into. Almost never much of a line at the TSA checkpoint. Getting into BOS anytime other than the weekend is a crap shoot.

Regarding the train to get there, I have never tried it, but this past winter has been a nightmare for T riders. The T has to be the worst run metro system in the country. The snow seriously kicked their ass. A Boston radio talk show dude I listen to, Howie Carr has been ranting about it more the last few months. He talked about how during the '78 blizzard, when non-morons ran it, the answer was simple. If it's snowing heavy, keep the trains moving. trains make pretty good plows. The T got through that fine. For this winter they shutdown and were fuct.

Rochester 101.4 inches
Boston 110.6 inches

Rochester : No significant disruption of services or transport
Boston: THE END OF THE FUCKING WORLD!!!!!

Fucking chowds can't handle weather.

To be fair, 101 inches of the white shit in crapchester is just another winter. It is called a
"personal best" for chowdville.

No excuse though. The T is the epitome of badly run Union dominated pseudo-private hack-o-ramas as Howie Carr likes to call them. Pretty much everyone working for the T got their job because they had a connection. They are all more or less unaccountable and can retire with an abscene pension after 20 years and move to Boca Raton where their pension doesn't get taxed to prop up the next generation of hacks. CT is in the same boat, as is your state.

Beantown had about 2.5X normal snow fall.

2.5X normal for Crapchester would put you at about 230". That is a shit ton of snow and would likely cause a few disruptions. But, you'd prolly handle it better than the T which is apparently run by the 3 stooges grandkids. Actually, they'd be kikes, Beantown is still pretty much run by drunken mics.

Yeah, who needs snow & rain?

It's going to be fun gouging these morons this summer when they have no power.

Too funny.

We would dump the snow into the Genesee River, something slow witted chowds didn't figure out until a month after they were inundated with snow. Also, allowing parking on both sides of the street in a blizzard is weapons grade stupid. Tow those bastards. They'll learn.

Boston is run by full on moonbat econazis. They have outlawed dumping the snow directly into boston hahbuh. Guess they rather let it run into the sewer system and then into the harbor. Not quite sure what the problem is since, last time I looked BH was already salt water. Well, more like salt water/sewage. Those fukking morons go so far as to bring in these ginormous diesel fired snow melters. I guess that is more ecologically sound than dumping it into the ocean. :meds:

Back in the day when I flew for General Dynamics and had an office in Needham, Shine and I had this same conversation over beers when IU was playing in the NCAA tourney in Boston. In an actual snow emergency how in the hell are they not pushing the snow into the harbor, especially downtown and the coastal communities. Yes, I understand that it will add salt and oil and other items that we generally don't want in our water, but as 'Holic points out these things will end up there anyway later when the snow melts.

Instead what you end up with are these huge piles of snow in the corner of each parking lot that last until July. In the spring they slowly melt during the day and the parking lot is covered in water. Then at night the water does what it does when the temp falls below 32 degrees and the parking lots become skating rinks and therefore unusable for 12 hours.
