Interstates- the title goes to PA. everyone else is battling for 2rd place.

Otherwise, I'll put my money on RI. Horrible fuking roads in general.

Shit list. Those roads look like a dream come true compared to Portland, where they build bike paths at the expense of the current policy of not repairing potholes, at all.

You people haven't see bad roads until you've been to Vermont. The state has one Interstate, which is maintained well. The rest of their roads were designed by people on magic mushroom and are maintained like a 2nd world country.

Places that have to do snow removal and have lots of freeze thaw cycles will have to spend much more to keep roads in decent shape.

CA isn't all that surprising given the recent poor management of the state and the fact they are growing. But with their "great" weather they should be able to make repairs timely.

Worst section of Interstate I ever drove on was I-40 west of Memphis in Arkansas. Concrete expansion joints were horrible. Not just the usual "ka-thump" horrible, but not able to drink a cup of coffee horrible. That was 1994, and one wold hope it has been repaired since then. PA highways are bad for sure, especially the never-ending construction around Scranton. PA is also bad as it seems that road kill is never leaned up. I remember seeing the same deer remains for around 3 years. Florida roads are decent except some roads out in the country have no shoulder.

Concord has five Mexicans to every apartment. That many low riders scraping the ground takes it toll.

That Wall Street Journal article Goobs linked us up to mentions the highway trust fund going broke. (Granted the story is from last year.)

But is anyone really surprised? Clinton raised the tax on it and instead of leaving the funds alone he diverted them elsewhere. (Not unique to him). Then Barry pushes for higher mpg minimums which reduce gas consumption. Reid then says we need to raise the gas tax again especially on non unleaded fuels. This pisses off some of his base and he backs off.

Others push for a tax on a per mile basis not on gallons purchased. Reid hates it because more of the folks who vote for him would see their costs go up while the soccer moms in suv's would likely see their costs go down.

Bottom line we have to do something soon.

No shortage of departments in the federal government that can be eliminated outright and the remainder can easily take a 30% haircut.

Sounds great in theory but you're living in a fantasy land if you believe that.

Michigan got seriously screwed. I could do a PET (pothole essay thread) that would blow away anything on that list.

So are we in agreement that each one of us drives on the worst kept roads in America?

Come on, this whole board is one giant dick measuring contest. It was only a matter of time until we got to potholes.

yup. it's official, every state in the country has the shittiest roads.

At least we have an excuse in the U&R where football sized stones being frost heaved up every ten feet this time of year is the norm.

Funny how we argue over being the best at things, except when we are arguing at being the shitiest. BTW, today I was driving along day dreaming and hit one at about 50 mph that had to be at least 4-5 inches deep. Good thing the sonata has steel wheels with sensibly sized tires. That same hit by douchbag BMW pilot (yes, dins, I know, that is redundant) would have been a couple grand trip to the local tire/wheel pimp. I will never understand why the fukk some manufacturers put 35 series 20 inch tires on aluminum wheels.

Missouri has decent roads, at least my sliver of them... until they decide to shutdown 2 lanes of every 3 lane Interstate every spring for maintenance and cause gridlock and multiple wrecks. People get hurt and some die. 20 minute commutes turn into 45.

Then have the temerity to bitch about how they don't have enough tax dollars to keep them in good shape. Really?

Then how can you afford to have every swinging dick road crew work 24 hours a day while you turn every road in town into a Pac-Man maze from April until October?

The best interstate roads I've come across... are in Kansas, and I simply haven't come across a state that is even close.

Once you leave Colorado's potholed shit interstate... and enter Kansas... it's like gliding on air and it's visible to the eye as well.

How San Francisco has the 2nd worst streets in the country is a flat out lie... it's the worst.

Maybe I wasn't clear. I was trying to say that places like Michigan are going to have worse roads than say Arizona where they don't do nearly the same amount of snow removal. Unless Michigan is spending a bit much more than AZ it isn't surprising their roads are the suck.
