Are you at all familiar with this U&L wine? My local email special. From the Union Wine Company.

'Round here, we call Underwood "the cheap shit."
I could be mistaken, but I'm not sure if they actually make wine -- it's possible that they just purchase bulk wine and bottle it.
But if you didn't pay much for it, knock yourself out.
They're right down the road from me -- in an industrial park.

$11.49/bottle. Now that you mention it, most of the wine emails talk about the vineyards. This one doesn't. They may well buy bulk wine and bottle it.

I enjoy Pinot Noirs and Malbecs more than anything, so I'm gonna give this one a try.

Around here we call the cheap shit "table wine". My very favoritest cheap wine is Crane Lake Sangiovese. I believe it's made by Bronco Wines (Two-buck Chuck). I've tried other Crane Lake reds and don't care for them at all (think ~ hint of banana flavoring). The Sangiovese, however, has been consistently good over a number of years. A bit fruit forward, extremely drinkable.

Our two cheap wines we usually drink are:
I always keep an Alamos Malbec and a 667 Pinot Noir in the rack.

Not too many vineyards situated in industrial parks.
It's often cheaper to buy bulk wine that a large outfit has fermented, then finish it yourself (oak, fining, whatever).

My buddy was the winemaker for those (gay) tards, before they sold out to the mega-corps (late 90's, IIRC). Menage a Trois used to actually be a bit on the expensive side back then.

Cameron Hughes comes to mind. They put out a huge number of different bottles, they tell you the grape and location but not which vineyard or winery it came from.
It can be hit and miss but some great values.

I picked up one of these at Costco on Saturday. It's mostly Merlot, with 11% cab. The best $11.00 bottle I've had in recent memory, and will go back for more if they're not sold out.

I think we belonged to a Lutheran church that used Manischewitz for communion. I remember that by the time I was old enough to swipe a little wine from the church kitchen it was Muscatel.

But you'll still empty a bottle before you stagger into your son's room and molest him, right?
I can't imagine the terror when he hears the door creak open and your belt buckle hit the floor....

There is a local micro-brew, Thomas Hooker that is located in a more or less deserted industrial park in the not so lovely suburb of Hartford, Bloomfield. Bloomfield used to be all jew until the nogs took over in the 60-70s. Thomas Hooker is the only reason this place should not be neutron bombed.
