TCU, Baylor, and Notre Dame are in your Top 10? Why?

Michigan St gets two 1st place votes and Oregon falls to 12.

So you think a team that lost their starting QB for the season might regress? That's a mighty bold prediction.

AP -- Since 99% of cfb still hasn't played anybody it's tough to do a top 10 without forecasting.

1 Ohio St
2 Bama
3 TCU
4 Michigan St
5 LSU
6 USC
7 Texas A&M
8 Oregon
9 Georgia Tech
10 Baylor

----------
11 Toledo
12 Jacksonville State

Not sure if I can come up with a Top 10 yet, but...

seriously?

I thought both Oregon and MSU sucked.

Vernon Adams was a comedy-of-errors, yet was one bad throw away from beating the "#1 defense"?

And MSU only managed 30 against that laughable display of "defense" Oregon put out? I'm not even sure all the starters know what the word "gap" means, and they think the term "wrapping up" is something you do to minimize DNA evidence while raping a co-ed. Just atrocious.

Unless these teams get their acts together, I'm not seeing playoffs in their future.

On a more positive note -- I though LSU looked sharp, and OU wasn't too bad.

Mgo's top 10 makes a lot more sense that Porky's. Not that that is at all surprising.

Especially if you take similar drugs.

Wisconsin is #1!
That makes no sense whatsoever. At least you're staying in character.

I think if the D doesn't at least cover the Pop Warner basics, USC will score 150 on them. Hell, Stanford might even break into the teens on them.

Eh, I watched half the squads in the top 25 struggle to put away teams like Northwest Idaho School of Birdwatching, so you'll have to forgive me if I'm not going to apologize for a win over a top 10 opponent.

I thought the game had a little bit of everything you want. Both teams made some great plays on both sides of the ball and there was fourth quarter drama. Yes, there were also some wtf moments and sloppy tackling. I'm not sure you want your squad peaking in early September anyway. Ask Ohio State about that. But I know, I know...you Pac 12ers aren't impressed unless the final score is 70-68.

I don't know about "#1 defense" but I was pleased overall with MSU's defensive performance. Vernon Adams struggled in large part because MSU's defensive line blew up Oregon's OL all night. Not much you can do when Malik McDowell is furnishing an apartment in your backfield. They held Royce Freeman to 3.8 YPC and the Ducks only scored one offensive touchdown through the first three quarters. Then...the fourth quarter happened. MSU still has to learn how to finish strong.

Mariota spoiled you guys. Now you are adjusting to life with a good, but not elite QB. You'll still get your points. I think both teams will be fine going forward but it's too early to talk playoffs for ANYBODY at this point.

Pretty much.

But I think what us Duckfans are gripping about was Adams' lack of readiness, and poor decision making. The guy was an absolute "FCS Superstar." I guess that highlights the difference between the divisions -- the QB that just tore up FCS had a hard time adjusting to the speed of FBS. Granted, that was a bigboy defense to cut his teeth on, but he attempted bad throws instead of aiming for the student section when plays broke down (which happens frequently against a defense of that caliber).

No, the shy isn't falling, but that needs to change.

And MSU's offense should have put up way more points against such a piss-poor defensive effort.

And I'm pretty sure the coaches of both squads know what needs to happen, since they're professional coaches of successful teams and stuff.

Probably, but it was a combo of playing a little tight in a big game early in the season, some rrrrrreally head scratching play calls (running wildcat with your backup QB on third down deep in Oregon territory when you have a 5th year senior QB? really?), and Oregon doing a reasonably good job of stuffing the run. It seemed like MSU either ripped off a big run or it was a 2 yard gain. Not much in between.

Sam... you're a fucking mess.

Yeah, I know it's week 2, and we might as well draw names from a hat.

But seriously, what caused you to move USC up? Was it that beatdown they put on Arkansas State? Or was it the way they so deftly handled the mighty Vandals?

And Oregon took a loss while playing zero defense, so you moved them up?

While MGO saw it differently (rose-colored glasses), Oregon's defense sucked bigtime. MSU's offense is not as good as EW's.

As far as who else has looked good... obviously, we can only watch so many games (although that's pretty much what I did all day saturday).

Teams that have looked good, at least on my TV at the time:

LSU
OU
Utah (nasty defense)

OK, that's about all I got this week.

Wisky looked pretty strong against Miami of Ohio.
